I don't think it sounds weird. Think it sounds accurate.

I think we're in a weird situation now certainly where society offers so much comfort, it's hard to imagine uprooting it. I mean let's face it, the average person in the UK, and I mean average, working man in the street, may be renting or have a big mortgage, but either way they come home every evening to a central heated house. They have broadband and Netflix, a big TV, possibly TVs in every room. Every member of the family has smartphones, probably a couple of Nintendo Switches, maybe a shelf of BluRays. Hell, an interior bathroom with a power shower. Hot running water. Electricity 24/7 with blackouts being very uncommon. Treated loo roll. Nectar points. Deliveroo.
I have felt like this every single day since these crazy dangerous fascists have been getting away with what they did in coup, and everything in between. I was honeslty going to bed at night hoping id wake up and someone had shot trump, poisoned, thrown out a window etc etc, apart from his little sympathy fake attempt he staged no one was actually serious in stopping all this.

There were always going to be wide repercussions to this dangerous idiot getting back into power, i hope the US starts to wake up and rip him out the chair, a civil war is the only way to deal with him and musk now.

I get that Fox News always give it a positive spin for Trump and the Republicans and demonise the Democrats, it's the spineless billionaires rolling over for him that I can't stomach.

Bezos stopping an advert saying "fire Elon Musk" in the Washington Post and not letting them say who they back in the election.

Zuckerberg not only letting Trump back on Facebook, but paying him out-of-court damages for when he was blocked after the insurrection.

        Google renaming Gulf of Mexico.

iPhone boss begging Trump to reconsider his tariffs that affect Apple.

5 of the top 10 richest men were at Trump's inauguration, total worth over $1 trillion.

People who don't need any more money, scurrying around for crumbs at the table.

Where are the press? Why aren't they holding him to account?
Why is it down to BuzzFeed, The Onion and Rolling Stones to challenge him?

This is the downward slide for me.
People upset at the price of eggs but not the slow descent into war because nobody was brave enough to stand up.

It was always business vs politicians, they're petrified of standing on their own because their rivals yeild uncontrolled power. I imagine a lot is sheer fear of what Trump would do to a major business rival that challenged him and Musk. Might still happen, Musk is perfectly positioned to severely sabotage Bazos's space dreams.

Admittedly, I do wonder in Zuckerberg's case. Given the specific business he runs, and the way he could, if so inclined, be a political Kingmaker, I wonder if it's genuine fear that gets him to toe the line. A car-bomb is fatal whether you're a billionaire or not.

I agree totally and yet the thing is, nothing is ever enough for a billionaire. The only way you become one is by being insatiably greedy and totally ruthless.

It's hard to get your head around as someone who isn't a psycho, since, yeah, if I had a minuscule fraction of their wealth - say a few million - I would retire tomorrow, never work again and spend my life having fun. But they will always want more.

I've seen Musk apologists on Reddit etc saying stuff to the effect of 'Why would he abuse his position for his companies, he already has enough money', which fatally misunderstands the mindset of these people.

Honestly, being a billionaire should just be illegal. It's insane they're allowed.

Be a real shame if all of them were targeted in 1 night, which the Pentagon certainly has the power to do so, let’s see how much digging into the pentagon budget musky dares to do.

Wow, sympathy for those guys. It's like when Reese-Mogg was in charge of the civil service and leaving those passive-aggressive notes; it must've taken all the willpower in the world not to piss in his coffee.

Report from Sen Chris Murphy about what happened in the Senate last night.

“Last night in the Senate, something really important happened. Republicans forced us to debate their billionaire bailout budget framework. We started voting at 6 PM because they knew doing it in the dark of night would minimize media coverage. And they do not want the American people to see how blatant their handover of our government to the billionaire class is.

So I want to explain what happened last night and what we did to fight back.

The apex of Republicans’ plan to turn over our government to their wealthy cronies is a giant tax cut for billionaires and corporations. And they plan to pay for it with cuts to programs that working people rely on. Popular and necessary programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP, are all being targeted.

In order to pass the tax cut, Republicans have to go through a series of procedural steps. Last night, they took the first step which requires them to pass an outline of their plan, but with it, any senator can offer as many amendments as we want. So my Democratic colleagues and I did just that.

Now, we knew that Republicans would largely unanimously oppose them, but we had two objectives here. One, Republicans were forced to put their opinion on record — many for the first time — on the most corrupt parts of Trump and Musk’s agenda. Two, as I’ve been saying, I am going to make every process and procedure as slow and painful as possible for as long as my colleagues choose to ignore the constitutional crisis happening before our eyes.

So what did we propose? We proposed no tax cuts for anyone who makes a billion dollars a year. We made them vote on whether or not Elon Musk and DOGE should have limitless access to Americans’ personal data. We made them vote on whether to protect IVF and require insurers to cover it.

Every single amendment Democrats proposed was shot down. On almost every single amendment, Republicans universally opposed it. Every Republican voted against our proposal to prevent more tax cuts for billionaires.

The corruption and theft is happening in the open here. The whole game for Republicans is taking your money and giving it to the wealthiest corporations and billionaires — even if it means kicking your parents out of a nursing home or turning off Medicaid for the poorest children.

They know what they are doing is deeply unpopular. They are offering a tax cut to the most wealthy that is 850 times larger than what they are offering working people. Oh and by the way, any tax cuts for working people are going to be washed out by higher costs for basic necessities, like health care and food. It’s a fundamental injustice.

Thanks to your pressure and support, many of my Democratic colleagues have joined my effort to do everything we can to make sure they cannot destroy democracy and steal your money in the dark of the night. We are being loud about what is happening. I’m going to continue to grind the gears of Congress down as much as possible to make it that much harder and slower to get away with this corruption. That’s why the votes lasted until nearly 5 AM.
This is a five-alarm fire. I don’t think we have two years to plan and fight back. I think we have months. It’s still in our power to stop the destruction of our democracy with mass mobilization and effective opposition from elected officials.

So we can’t miss any opportunity to take advantage of opportunities to put Republicans on the record and shine a light on what is happening.

And you have a role to play in this as well. I need you to amplify what’s happening, support the leaders who are fighting for you to make sure they can continue speaking truth to power against Musk and Trump’s billionaire cronies, and show up at rallies and town halls. Use every tool at your disposal to send a message loud and clear about how you expect my colleagues to lead and fight in this moment.”

                            Every best wish,

                            Chris Murphy

It seems even more egregious that Trump has spent almost $11 million on golfing since his inauguration and Snopes investigated his Superbowl visit as costing $1 million in a conservative estimate, plus a similar trip to Daytona 500, where he drove around the track and had Air Force One do a flyby (approx. $177,843 per flight-hour).

Why are DOGE not looking at these frivolous trips, which cost more than the total of the annual wages of all the park rangers they've fired?
