I think part of the problem is the return to protectionism.

Globalism was doing a pretty good job at making nations depend on each other, so much so that a full-on war was unthinkable because you're bombing the country that makes your rice, or your trainers, or your microchips.

But then we have things like Brexit come along and they show that despite all that, people can still willfully just punch themselves in the face. Now the US is basically bringing back protectionism and it's all starting to fall apart.

I don't use some high profile social media sites (like I deleted my accounts many years ago) and when I applied for an ESTA to go to the US years ago, it got flagged and I got asked - admittedly, just politely - "did you forget to fill out this section?" when I left that field blank, but they were okay once I explained.

This kinda thing makes me concerned if I was going to go to the US in 2027, will they refuse to take that as an answer? "Everyone has this, why won't you give us the details" etc.
