Thanks guys, I am so pleased and relieved to have a permanent full time job sorted. Maxine, my wife, is actually due today so we really need a salary coming in - I've only been redundant for a week and a bit so I hope this gives some encouragement to anyone else here looking for work. Charles, I start on the 23rd November, which means that even if Maxine doesn't have the baby until late October, we'll still have 3 weeks until I have to start work! Thanks for your support guys, it really is appreciated.

I managed to find myself on a P-I-P (perf. impr. plan), which in my experience is shorthand for "we're going to fire you, but we're going to go through a long drawn out process so that we can't be done for construcive dismissal".
They were really ratcheting up the pressure, but I was performing well and all they could do was nitpick and split hairs; but crucially it reminded me that actually I am good at what I do and I do have a lot offer, which I'd lost sight of because I allowed them to grind my self-confidence down.
Thankfully, I've found a new employer who agrees with me and got a promotion, a bigger team to look after and a 25% payrise to boot! Result.

And how is he going to afford ?9k per year for uni with no job? And it's pretty late for Ucas apps this year now. It really depends on what you fancy doing Chris, I was in the same situation last year having been made redundant from the NHS one thing I can tell you there really is no support out there for people over 25 for advice etc.

Regrettably, if you have no experience outside of retail or further education then retail is probably all you can hope for at this point.
If you have any passions outside of gaming, then see if there's a college course associated with that you could do.
