Far too weak to keep a bottle of something so beautiful

I've had the more "traditional" form of homebrew too. Another friend of mine used to routinely brew beers that could take the enamel off of the bath. Or toilet - which came in useful the morning after.

It put me off brewing my own for years

Another bottle of the Satanic Mills Bombardier next. Ahhh tonight I live like a king.

Finishing off with an Isle of Ely Raspberry Stout. Unlike the others tonight this is bottle conditioned and the "liveness" of the taste is noticeable.

Anyway not that raspberry-ish but still quite tasty. 6/10.

There was a beer festival on after all but the number of ales available to taste? Just eleven - no joke.

I think I have listed them previously at other festivals but there was this one golden bitter that tasted quite lovely; so much I had two pints of that.

It was such a warm evening too and the three of us were sitting outside from 7 - 10pm before heading home by taxi as we all had to be up for work tomorrow morning.

And yes Ish, it seems that living in Suffolk (and Norfolk nearby) has its benefits in the summer for beer festivals and I love it.

        *looks at my beer belly*

        Oh dear...

As for a 10/10 ale prinny; while I might be biased, every time I have the Adnams Regatta I nearly slip into some alternative universe. I simply love it but finding that 'perfect' ale varies on your taste to be quite honest.

Have I had a 'perfect' beer? Not quite but there have been some serious contenders lately.

It seems that its fate for me, Ish and prinny to meet up and have a beer or two one day!

I was in Norfolk on business today as it happens and had a pint of Adnams. Think it was called Broadside. Rather pleasant it was too.

We have a few of those micro-fest's here. Pubs usually hold them round here.

            Adnams Broadside - yum yum.

Though thinking about it I seem to say yum yum about most beer.

Trying to cut down this week, so just a measly bottle of Becks for me.

              Was still very nice though

I think my downfall is that I can't drink that much. That's why on a tasting session I go for halves. Sometimes I feel as if I haven't maximised the yum yum factor because at the end of a split bottle I'm just getting warmed up. That's why firestokers, Golden Champions, Golden Glories and other such luminaries are always shifted in whole bottles. You just can't go for shorter measures of The Kings of Beer.

One day, VP and I are going to get a site up and running choc-a-ful of real ale reviews. Most will just be a quick synopsis, or a rating, but as we go on, more detailed reviews will follow. Hopefully we'll get other reviewers on board to submit their opinions, then we can get a consensus rating for a significant amount of the more common beers

We've been meaning to do this for years .. this summer will be the one!

While I'm only 19 years old, I have had plenty of beer during past year or so. I would happily like to 'review' several ales (Adnams in particular!) so if you need an extra person to drink (and taste) some more then I can be of assistant.

I've got four bottles of Magners earlier; they are my drinks for tonight.

I totally get what you are saying about ? pints - you can never get a proper verdict simply because the time you have finished, you have just tasted the beginning of the wonderful (or not wonderful) ale.

That is why I go for the pints nowadays especially when I can handle my drink better than before.

Perhaps you could review the lables and VP the actual beer? Either that or you could review softdrinks. Like tango:

Hee hee I tried to start something similar last year. Like an online encyclopedia of real ale and pubs. The site was written in Ruby on Rails. But I got distracted by the tasting and never finished it

Heh ah yes the glory days of multi-beer handling. I remember when VP and I used to drink a bottle of Durham Brewery's Imperial Russian Stout (10%) as a starter on a night, followed by about 4 bottles each and then the homebrew!

I think you should get bent. I'm surprised you noticed having spent most of the time chatting up the serving wench, you leering pervert. tbh the Tango thrashed me more than a beer ever would. It swelled me up something rotten with gas and, coupled with the big eat just consumed, made that Otter Breweries number a little hard to take. For my hardcore Nottingham credentials I refer you to the pint of Witches Brew (or something) I drank in the Castle the last time we went there - it was like munching on a meal and a pack of cigars all at once. And who downed half of VP's pint because it was too tough for him? Yes, that's right. Team Juans.

                        lol it was me really.

I was thinking of calling it The Boozehound or something - the main page could have a picture of a bloodhound wearing a top hat and a monocle, with a pointy beard, and looking really dazed and pissed, propped up against a bar in some grotty old man's pub.

Well, another Friday is within touching distance. Another 6 beers prepped and ready. Ah, why can't every night be friday night? Co-op EDF, PES and whatever else is the flavour of the day, all liberally washed down with newbie real ales. Magic

                            Happy happy Friday indeed.

Tomorrow my plan is to head down the work-local at lunchtime for a nice pint of Greene King IPA and a big fat all day breakfast toastie.

Then after work I am picking up a friend and we are heading to the local real ale hostelry where I look forward to sampling what they've got on this week.

Drinking a Royal Oak Ale at the moment. Its very nice. Very hoppy. And while I'm not quite a hop-head I do like my beer hoppy. This gets 8/10 from me.

Blakes Cosport Bitter - 7/10. 5.2% but while having a good robust taste didn't taste all that alcoholic.

Now sampling a Nethergate Umbel Ale.
