Never do things like that instore as the staff are only able to offer the standard deals.

I've been getting free phone for years now by following a few simple rules. Phone up Vodafone and choose the option for "thinking of leaving the company" and you'll get put through to a specialist team who have the authority to do one off deals to save customers.

The team you speak to will have up to date records of all their competitors special offers and deals so you can only blag so much that way. What I always say is that I work for one of their competitors and I have the option to get the phone that I want free of charge but as I've been with Vodafone for so long and being so happy with their service I'd really rather not leave them unless I have to.

If you say that they will have no idea what employees will be offered in the free phone area and they know that you really want to stay with them so they should be able to sort something out for you.

I'm with Vodafone and I wanted the K850i as I was after a really good camera phone. For the package I was on which was perfect for me they wanted me to pay ?150/?160? as it had only been out a few days. By doing what I did I got the phone for free and also got a ?10 credit out of them which I've never had before.

I got what I wanted and they got what they wanted so everybody is happy.

Not sure what the price is for your phone and I can't promise you'll get yours free of charge but doing that will ensure you get it for the lowest price possible from them.

Did you say you were on an 18th month contract? T-mobile used to offer early upgrades a much worse deal than doing it when you are actually due. Mainly because you can leave once your contract is up, but you can't when you do it early.

My 12-month contract with T-Mobile ended in January - it's currently still rolling and I'm still on T-Mobile, but I may end it and take my phone number with me.

Hate to say it, but I'm sorely tempted by O2 and - you probably guessed it - an iPhone. But, I can't stand the thought of using EDGE for Mobile Internet/Data (Far too used to the speed of phones like my Nokia 6233 - technically a 3G phone, believe it or not!). I'm holding out for the fabled "3G iPhone", due out later in the year if the rumours are correct.

Can anybody (iPhone/Apple fanboys preferably) shed any light on this? it's driving me nuts - I feel like I'm stuck in some sort of Mobile Phone Limbo!!

I had a 3G phone with Opera mini 4 before my iPhone and I can assure you the quality of the browsing experience is so much better you don't care about the speed.

It's possible there will be a 3G iPhone later this year maybe in June when the 2.0 software ships.

If you buy an iPhone now you can upgrade without having to restart your contract.

Hey, you're already preaching to the converted with regards to Safari's quality - I'm just not sold on EDGE at all. I mean, It's not even properly catered for by O2 - that says it all...

For me, 3G owns EDGE every time.

Interesting - where did you hear that from?

I thought in the case of the iPhone, you could end a current O2 contract so long as it was signed up before the original iPhone UK announcement (September 9th). You simply bought the iPhone, registered the details and then simply ported your number over.

Can anyone clarify with regards to number porting to O2 - if I activate a phone, is it possible to port my current number later on, as Orange mail out the PAC code, which will arrive a few days after I get the phone.

Yes, that's right. You just start a new 18 month contract with the iPhone.

You should get a new temporary number from O2 to use until the transfer is completed.

Any my K850i has BROKEN AGAIN!! Now when I switch the camera on, the wee switch doesn't register in the camera section, only video and gallery so I cant actually take photos with it now. If I get this replaced it will be my 5th one now! Absolute JOKE!!

And since this is a problem with the keys technically since it won't register when clicked, that makes it my 3rd key problem which means I can get a new model of phone instead of this same old piece of **** so I'm leaning towards Viewty now! Anyone recommend it or anything else similar?

Had the same problem mate. had 2 of these in the last week now, both switching themselves off increasingly then dying completely.

I have to say, mobile phones are complete crap now days, all of them.

Went looking for a new mobile wanted the iphone had no coverage for O2 so thats out. So I decided on either a viewity or N95 (on vodafone as it is the only network that has coverage for the places i need) but the vodaphone shop talked me out of the N95 by saying that they thought the tariff it was on was too expensive for the phone (instead they got me on a 750 anytime minutes and 250 texts for ?25) and got me to test and finally choose a samsung F700 I had already tested a friends viewity, and I found the samsung touch screen slightly easier to use than the viewity, also the screen is bigger and it has a slide out keyboard (but it means the phone is physically larger, and the samsung only has a 3.2 megapixel camera).

                            N95 - Awesome Phone - GPS CRAP!! :-(

Well well well, had my N95 a few days.

                            THE GOOD:

Awesome big bright screen, copes well under direct sunlight too.
Camera is great, seems better than K850i
Much faster to take pictures and save them
And MUCH faster to view pictures. You can fly through them in full screen and don't need to wait a few seconds for them to get sharp, instantly perfect!
The video is awesome for a phone too!
WiFi is great, always grabs the connection to quickly.
Put some episodes of Family Guy on there too and when encoded properly looks and sounds perfect. Can't fault it.
Got an 8Gb card for it for music, and that works a treat, you can flick through all your tracks very fast and music quality is great.
It handles so many applications being open at once without slowing down in the slightest. Very impressive!

                            BUT...

I cannot for the life of me get GPS working! It's killing me. I have Nokia Maps which I'm not too bothered about and Nokia Sports Tracker which is a workout companion thing that traks your walks, runs, cycles, then you upload them to the web and shows you your speed distance, etc, and plots it all on a map, looks a great service but I can't get the GPS on this phone to work once.

Nokia don't seem to be of any help and I've fully upgraded the phone to the newest v21 firmware and when I phoned Orange they said it was Nokia's problem since it's their software even though I'm using their mobile service to try and connect using GPS. So I'm stuck now.. Don't know what else to do. If I can get the GPS working I will be over the moon but it just can't grab my location no matter how long I leave it on for and when I'm out in the open with nothing that could possibly be blocking the signal!

Anyone else had similar troubles with GPS on this?

                            Overall though, top phone!

Just found out that I'm getting a HTC S710 from work as a part of my free BT broadband.

I've never really used a smart phone before due to not really needing one, I'm still not convinced that I need one but I'm not going to complain.

Has anybody here used one of them? Any advice, apps, info or sites to visit that you recommend as I've not used mobile broadband before so don't really know what I'm up against with this.

I should say that I've also got a SE K850i which will still be my standard phone and I don't really see that changing as that really does everything I want it to do.

                                Cheers.
