    Thanks, Charles. Nice article.

I've been struggling over which phone to get for ages and although I'm tempted by the HTC HD7, Samsung Omnia 7, HTC Mozart, HTC Desire and Desire HD, I've come to the decision that I don't need a phone the size of Gibraltar.

Thus, I keep coming back to the HTC Wildfire. The main downside is that it's got a slower processor than the Desire, but it's smaller, cheaper and does a lot of similar things.

I'm thinking of moving from O2 (who don't care that I've been with them 6 years with only one upgrade) and moving to T-Mobile because they have unlimited internet, T-Mobile to T-Mobile for free option and a voucher if I introduce a friend.

I know it's swings and roundabouts with phone suppliers though...

After a few weeks of using my dads Omnia 7, id put that at the top of my list as its one slick, sexy device.

If customisation is important then the desires are brilliant phones too, if you can get one that is as ive not been able get one as there always out of stock (desire hd keeps getting its release date pushed back too)

If you have the choice of all those phones id scratch the wildfire of the list. Its just as slow as the hero and the wildfire screen is awful, really low res.

Chances of that turning up before Christmas are slowly fading. Delay #2 just hit.

Nooooo, I timed the selling of my current San Francisco on eBay so that I would get this white one in time!

Word of warning to anyone getting/thinking of getting a San Francisco:

There are a bunch of custom ROMs out there. Variants of Eclair (2.1) and even Froyo. I've tried pretty much all of them and, without exception, all of them will totally cripple your battery life. Your best bet right now is to keep the stock Orange ROM on there and just remove the Orange crap you don't want (instructions for doing this are avalable on http://android.modaco.co/forum.html )

Yeah, thought I'd check (Getting it for Mrs. 45 for Christmas) and Play are showing the 16th now.

Fingers crossed it gets here in time, if not it'll be here in plenty of time for her birthday at the end of January.

As long as I can unlock and de-brand, I'm happy.

Yep, modaco even has an unlock code generator now I think so you can do it for free (I paid a couple of quid to an ebay chancer).

I'm on Day-2 of my Orange Stock ROM and I reckon the battery is lasting at least 3 times longer than with any of the custom ones. Shame really, the Froyo rom is so much faster than Eclair :-(

Some vids of the playstation phone showing the slider and a little of the psp interface, no games played though. Hardware looks well made.

Though the thing that it will come down to though will be battery, 2 hours of gaming and a dead battery just wont cut it.

Wow guys, we just spotted a new video of the PlayStation Phone, codenamed Zeus Z1, and this time we get a long, loving look at the entire device -- a refreshing contrast to last time's blurry tease. In addition to appreciating just how fat this phone is, and just how real it is, you can clearly see a "PlayStation" icon, which should hopefully put to rest any doubts that this phone will actually play PlayStation games. Check out a close-up of the icon after the break. Oh, and by the way, there's no audio on the video, your computer is not broken. [Thanks, Sha] Update: There's another video! Check out a brief look at the PlayStation app after the break...

Yeah considering basic games absolutely rape the battery life on a smartphone I'd imagine more sophisticated titles will be even worse. Unless battery tech gets significantly better I think it's a poor idea to have a Playstation phone.

Seems to be one area that phone companies just couldn't care less about advancing, or even slightly improving.

Just look at the htc desire HD, uses a paltry 1250 mAh battery to power a whopping 4.3 inch screen, which is a smaller batter size than the desire, hero, legend and even the wildfire. With everything more or less switched of and services disabled none of those phones last more that a day so god knows how bad the desire hd is.

So htc are actually going backwards in this area

With everything off I just about manage to last 18 hours, with a few calls and very light web use. So not good at all

I've got a desire and it just about lasts 2 days with very, very light use. Considering that most of the use it gets is at home it's one of the many reasons I'm considering a dumbphone, albeit one with GPS, for my next phone unless batteries get a lot better.

That's also what happens when you start chucking 1 GHz processors into phones.

The first day I had it I nearly gave it back as the battery lasted 8 hours until dead with aut sync on, srceen use is still the highest use item though, can't really do anything about that though!

On my Desire I've had about 6 months now (never did get the iP4 - as it was twice the price on 18mth contracts) I turn Mobile Internet off via the power button and it makes a massive difference to the battery life. With light call/SMS usage I can then get 3 to 4 days out of the phone. This is with no wifi, GPRS or BT either.

Although for many people that might defeat the point of having a smartphone. For myself with no Twitter, no FB and light email use, it's fine.
