If you don't already know all about the Samsung Galaxy S II, where have you been the past two months? The successor to one of the most popular Android handsets to date carries a burden of expectation almost as sizable as its 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus screen. It promises to be thinner, lighter, and faster than the Galaxy S that preceded it, while garnishing Android 2.3.3 with a set of TouchWiz customizations that might actually enhance, rather than hinder, the user experience. As such, the Galaxy S II earns Samsung full marks for ambition, but does this slinky new smartphone live up to its interstellar hype? The answer, as always, can be found after the break. %Gallery-122444%

Obviously a lot can happen in 7 months, but that review has me seriously contemplating lifting my Samsung product embargo.

It's one of the very few android phones engadget have given above an 8/10 to!!

Getting more and more spectacular reviews. I honestly can't wait to get hold of this amazing phone!

Just upgraded to the Galaxy S2 today

It's on charge at the mo so will get a play with it tonight.

Really impressed with the shop one I had a tinker with...it's so light & slim it's about half as thick at the wifes iPhone 4 & the big screen is amazing.

Some piccies (please ignore the wifes iPhone Case...barbie was a little sick & threw up all over it!!!)...

Dying to get on it later.

Did you buy SIM-free or pick it up on contract?

Stupiply light...WAY WAY lighter than the Ip4
Not too bad it's a little bigger than the Nokia 5800 it replaces but loads slimmer so it's easier in the pocket but I will need to keep checking on it as it's going to be easy to forget it's there.

Trying to find a screen protector & case now though as my jeans will ruin the screen in about a day if I'm not careful.

Could someone tell me if o2 iphone 4s can be unlocked? My girlfriends thinking of getting a white one but she'd need to be able to be able to swap the micro sim out occasionally and use her foreign (Norwegian) one. I've read that o2 even offer this service themselves before the contract term runs out but this is dated awhile ago? Any advice on this much appreciated

I thought you needed to jailbreak it to unlock it? I know O2 offer the service at the end of the contract, news to me if it's before.

The Galaxy S2 is meant to have a gorgeous screen.

                      What's battery life like?

It does indeed, so crisp & clear it's stunning.

Battery seems ok at the moment I was tinkering with it for most of last night setting up Email, Android account, interneting, wi-fi setup etc. & it didn't seem to eat into the battery in any great shakes.

I always turn my phone off overnight & it's still showing almost full this morning so not bad so far but the test will be today when it's on all day & I'm playing about with it properly.

Will let you know how it gets on.

Can anyone recommend a phone for the missus? Basically she'd like a phone that's good for twitter and Facebook. Beyond that, apps and so on would likely be completely wasted on her. Anyone know of a phone that handles those really well but doesn't cost a fortune for power, apps and things she'll never use?

Well been having a good old tinker today & the phone is fantastic.

As a basic phone it makes perfectly good calls & the texting is fine.

                            As a smart phone though it's h-amazing!!

The games are great...Angry Birds Rio for free is bargaintastic & the bigger clearer screen makes it a joy to play.
I've downloaded the Emulators for SNES, PCE, Spectrum & GBA so far just trying to get some roms to tinker with.

Also looking into this Wiimote control option but it doesnt seem to like the S or S2 so hoping someone will bring a fix out for it as I don't think I'll be able to use touch screen for the Emulation controls

The sreen is absolutely crystal clear, so bright & much better than the wifes iPhone 4 one

Battery life so far has been ok...still got quarter left & I've been fiddling with it all day long...Web Browsing, Email, calls, games, Market place the whole shebang & it's lasting pretty well

Internet is good, nice & speedy using Vodafone & Wi-Fi is just as good as you'd expect & REALLY simple to setup which is nice.

Camera is impressive...8mp is a huge leap from the 3.2 on my old Nokia 5800 so it's a great improvement but even compared to the Wifes IP4 it's better & I thought that was bloody amazing.

Havent tried video mode yet as it's not really something I've ever needed before.

The amount of pre-installed apps & software is mighty impressive & the free Sat Nav is amazing.

I'm seriously impressed & would say it's the best phone I've ever had the pleasure of using & if you are due an upgrade anytime soon I would definitely recommend trying it out.

Sounds like me. I would seriously look into a Nokia/Symbian phone if I was doing it again. My Orange San Francisco is certainly very good value for a touch screen smartphone, running Android (around ?100, closer to ?77 via phone if you are an existing Orange customer ? it can be unlocked for other networks). Otherwise maybe a Blackberry?

There may be cheaper phones, but I don't know if they will do FB, etc.?

Have you heard about GiffGaff? Mobile data on PAYG between 2-20p per day, and free for a further month ATM. You can order a SIM through my affiliate link and get ?5 free credit.

I really should have gone for a Samsung, just had to book my HTC Desire Z in for it's 2nd repair, faulty touch screen again!
