My girl just told me she was offered a job in the USA whilst out drinking with her bosses and their US partners last night. She's a receptionist at a large corporate firm in London. She's going to take it. I feel quite sick. Hopefully she won't get a green card, does anyone know how it works?

t-shirt. yesterday i was scrambling about in the loft of a posh hotel fitting in-ceiling speakers, shirts would be silly. that said my entire ensemble is black and i emerged a light shade of grey

Well she won't get a green card unless she wins the green card lottery (which last time I checked wasn't even accepting UK people).

She'll need to get a work visa, which involves the company 'proving' that only she can get the job she'd be brought over for. That might be hard for a standard receptionist position... depends to what length the company is prepared to go (aka pay). It'd be an L1-B visa if they pull that off, or an H visa if not (a short-term guest worker). Not sure where Pavey got A1 from - that's a diplomat visa.
