Heheh. I was coming back through Newark to the UK from Philadelphia, back in the early nineties. Going through customs and imigration, I got stopped and had my hand luggage searched. Upon finding a load of hip-hop tapes (Chubb Rock, Grand Puba etc) that I had bought in the US, the guy asks me:

Him: "So you like hip-hop?"
Me: "yeah"
Him, turning to a girl working alongside him: "Hey, this English guy likes hip-hop".
She stops to give me a long look up and down.
Him: "They got hip-hop in England?"
Me: "Er... yeah."
Him: "They got black people in England?"
Me: "yeah, of course!"
Him <to the girl>: "Damn! You hear that? This guy says they got hip-hop *and* black people in England!"
Me: "Why wouldn't there be black people in England?"
Him: "I dunno, I thought it was all like Sherlock Holmes, foggy and ****"
Me (laughing) : "No, things have moved on from pea soupers and jack the ripper".

With that, the guy gives me a hand-shake like I'm a bro and let's me go to the boarding gates.
