You'll get put on emergency tax which is stupidly high, then after 2-3 months they'll calculate your proper tax rate and either deduct the amount you've already overpaid or give you a rebate.

Emergency tax sucks. Best reason to ensure you keep p45's in a safe place.

But I haven't been taxed anything!

Have you had a look at your tax code on your payslip if you have it?

Mine was 647L which means "standard code for anyone under 65"

        This page might help:

What tax codes are, how they're worked out, and what to do if you think your code is wrong.

I've been part-time for ages now and there have been quite a few occasions where I haven't paid any tax for that month if I worked less than a certain number of days, could that be the case for you? I think it was something like eight or fewer days to not pay tax.

I work four hours a day, five days a week. It's just a Christmas temp job, tax code is as yours, 647L. I don't know whether I can plan to have this amount of money every time I get paid or whether I'm gonna get taxed in the future. It's bizarre. I can't work out why I wouldn't have paid anything unless I have to earn £6475 in a year before they start claiming owt, which seems odd to me.

EDIT: Maybe because I'm starting in October I can't earn £6475 this tax year at my current rate of pay, and they've taken that into account.

Sounds like it. I didn't really pay attention to my tax until earlier this year when a friend at work was on emergency tax and got about 2k back so I tried the tax calculator and mine was all fine over the past six years or whatever it was.

That's exactly the reason. You only get taxed on your salary if you earn above that level.

Two Stellas, no food since 12. Wasted. Not even 8pm. The shame.

For the last hour and half the muscles underneath my right eye and cheek bone have been spasming like crazy.

Aside from making me look like some dirty winking letch (that's an `i` not an `a`), it's also starting to hurt

                          Eye AIDS, definitely.

Apparently the eye twitch thing can either be a sign of stress or staring too long at a computer screen.

I googled once when I had a bout of the same. A good night's rest and a break from the computer did the trick.

I read it as an 'a', sorry. I get the same thing now and then. It's almost like how a fly flutters its wings. Ady's right - I do the same thing and it sorts it out.

Before I do that, I have some fun with it first, like slowly closing my eye which makes my cheek start wobbling all funny-like

                                balls!

Spent all afternoon typing notes for a presentation I am doing for a job interview, but I#ve lost the changes because it was part of an email attachment.
