The judging is very controversial at the best of time. Nothing to do with 'poster boys' winning though as the judges are all independant and in the past have even known very little about MMA.
independent judges in a vegas centred fight business, oh, you mean the Nevada state board of control ?
I know this was at the Staples Centre and there is always the notion of independent judges but boxing has taught that this isn't always achieved.
It was a hard fight to score as depending who you were watching they often both connected at the same time, that said the overriding impression of the crowd/commentators and us is a clear Rua win. I've not read much online to see if that view is actually opposed elsewhere.

Woah, that Strikeforce event was an absolute cracker.
I couldn?t sleep last night so I decided to stay up and watch the first few fights, but in the end they were so good I ended up watching the lot.
Fedor vs. Rogers
Fedor never ceases to amaze me. I genuinely thought he was done when Rogers put him up against the fence (he kept looking up at the clock) but once Fedor regained his composure he just shrugged the broken nose off and threw Rogers (who weighs the same as Brock) onto his back. In the second I was expecting more of the same (which I assume is what Brett thought) with Fedor trying to keep the fight on the ground, but then out of no where he throws a huge overhand right - I actually jumped out of my seat when Rogers crumpled to the ground. Great fight.
The other fights were top notch also, particularly the opening one between Werdum and that giant
(never seen a guy that big with such great movement on the ground)
Makes me wonder if the UFC has different rules, because apart from BJ Penn, you never really see fighters transition from different positions so effortlessly; maybe it?s the fact they had a decent ref in Big John Mccarthy overseeing the event?
The only real negative was the atrocious commentary team, who at times didn?t even know the names of the fighters.

The fights were great. Fedor didn't win as effortlessly as everyone thought - Brett Rogers looked great.
As for the effortless transitioning... probably because UFC guys generally have better defence?

just watched on Bravo
Fedorfight was a stunner, thought he was a goner in the 1st but its lik he feeds on giving his opponents a bit of confidence then bam, just like the Arlovski fight in many ways.
Fabricio Werdum fight very good too but I loved the look of the slippery dutch light heavy, Mousasi, he looked great.

Mousasi needs to sign with the UFC. There’s nobody left for him to fight unless Dan Henderson jumps ship.

i'd come to the conclusion that the increased activity in ground transitions were due to the fighters not having as good defence as maybe you see at the UFC in general.
agree Fedor's win was far from effortless, he is a brilliant freak though, too small, bit chubby, not particularly muscley but he's so quick, strong and punches like a hammer.
First I'd seen Rogers and he didn't just seem a banger, he had some ground game and managed to get Ferdor off him and out of a couple of nasty situations.

The post-fight chat (not on here, on specialist MMA forums) is always amusing after a Fedor fight. Every single time he fights, people say "now we know how to beat him, he's just a man, if XX had done YY they would have won".
The funny thing is, no-one manages to actually do YY. I was impressed with Rogers too - he showed a lot more in this fight than in the four or five previous fights of his I've seen - but the whole thing about Fedor is that he instantaneously adapts to his opponent, and the different situations in any given fight. Alistair Overeem is gonna be another stiff challenge, probably his stiffest in a long time, but I'm confident.
Anyone excited about UFC 105? I'm not too bothered about it - I'm semi-interested in Swick vs Hardy but ambivalent otherwise.

Thought Fedor was done for when his nose was cut/broke with virtually the first punch of the fight. But he came back well, the right hand winner would have flattened most boxers.
Not a great card for UFC 105, talk of winner of Swick and Hardy fight taking on GSP, he'll destroy either one of them I'm sure.
