Just my tuppence.. I've been to one MMA cage fighting night and pretty much hated it for that very reason - the amount of bald head muscle guys screaming their heads off whilst drinking.. Not a good mix.

I've been doing martial arts for years, so I thought I would enjoy it, but unless you don't mind endless bouts of guys grappling with the occaisional good bit of stand up stuff then give it a miss...

At then his last fight again, which went the distance, the crowd started getting restless just after round 1 due to virtual no action taking place. Appreciate the onus is'nt on him to take the fight to his opponent all the time, but seeing as how good he is, his opponents don't want to engage him. They end up just shadow boxing, which from a spectator sport, is quite boring to sit through. Even more so when you have fights on the same card where the contestants have been going at each other non stop. The last thing a crowd wants to see as the main event is pretty much a non event.

are you the David Pleat of the MMA thread, he is called Anderson SILVA, not Sylvia

His last fight was a virtuoso jazz performance (quite literally at some points when he was dancing). If you only want to listen to heavy metal, there's not much I can say to make you think otherwise...

Let's not start the hate speech against the bald community, okay?

              he stunk the joint out

UFC is an all action brand, I can see that opens it up to accusations of being a 20/20 version of fighting but thats what I want to watch and why I love it.

i hate negative sport, the win at all costs attitude nearly always takes things down a boring, flair removed, route. Silva may well be a massively skilled fighter but a couple more performances like the last 2 and he'll won't be headlining in the UFC for much longer

this always leaves me open to accusations of being a 'peasant' or 'not understanding the deeper elements', this is garbage, I get them just don't want to waste my time watching them

Dana has said numerous times that he doesn't mind fighters that lose as long as they 'bring it'. Silva didn't. He waits for it to come to him and it has now upset his standing in the company as opponents know how to stay safe against him.

Whatever. He's the champion - challengers have to bring it to him.

You've gone a bit quiet about Fedor..?

                          UFC 99 Preview

Didn’t know there was such animosity between Wanderlei and Anderson. Lets hope Wand picks up the win so they can make it happen - not even Anderson could make that fight boring.

A fight not mentioned on the preview, but I’m really interested in, is the return of Crocop. He’s fighting some bloke I’ve never heard of, but if he gets the win (hopefully with a trademark head kick) he’ll be back headlining the main card - Crocop v Couture maybe?

If you’re going back through some of the old fights Dazzy, be sure to check out Bonnar vs. Griffin, Rampage vs. Wanderlei and Fedor vs. Noguira; they all had me on the edge of my seat!

Should be a corker... my bet is that Anderson will pick him apart. Wanderlei's not there anymore.

I love Crocop, but he should retire. His last fight he was KO'ed by a right high kick to the head - humiliating.

For some recent great fights check out Frank Shamrock vs Cung Le, Benji Radach vs Scott Smith, and Cerrone vs Varner.

I wince when I watch really early UFC stuff - eye pokes, groin attacks, finger locks, no gloves. Anyone else find it too brutal?

Forgot about this one from last year - Kawajiri vs Alvarez. It was voted Sherdog's Fight of the Year. Great stuff.

Yeah, it'll more than likely end like the Leben fight, but at least we know Wand will bring. If he can’t get past Franklin though, maybe he should call it a day.

I remember hearing one of the older UFC fighters (Tank Abbott?) complaining he couldn’t use head butts anymore.

I’m glad they changed the rules (except for soccer kicks, I want them back) but the 'no rules' reputation still persists. Public perception is still one of 'rednecks wearing wife beaters' throwing low blows for 5 rounds, despite the rule change, and the sport being full of well educated people: Liddell has a degree in accounting, Franklin used to be a maths teacher, and one of the middleweight/welterweight champs used to be a doctor lol.

Also unlike boxing none of the older fighters are punch drunk; well, maybe Liddell but that's more to do with partying 24/7.

Fact is, even with eye pokes, groin attacks, and head butts, it’s still safer than boxing and I think that annoys the naysayers.
