Wow- I've never seen a zander in the flesh. Don't know if the little one's a zander or a perch, it's a bit too wee to tell.

I'd never seen one before that. Have been to that place quite a few times since and while I have the feeder out for Bream, Roach & Tench, I've tried everything. Spinner, live bait, dead bait, plugs but only seem to be getting Pike. Everyone locally was quite shocked too.

As for the small one, I'm pretty sure it is a Zed, as I've had loads of small Perch about that size(Annoying little ****ers) and they all looked like proper Perch!

I'm also edging towards your 4lb Perch, having had quite a few over 2lb lately. There is a place locally that has loads over 4lb, but it's a syndicate water and the season ticket is £800!!! It's not rammed full of fish, but those that are in there are massive. At one point a few years ago, the British record Bream was taken out of there. 16lb12oz!!!

One guy also blanked for three years, then one day had 14 or so Bream out, all over 15lb!!!

So anyone else been out on the rivers lately?

I've recently found a pond not far from me and have been going down there when the sun is out. It's full of wild Commons and Koi and although they aren't massive, with the biggest I've had out so far being just under 7lb and the majority between 3-5lb, but great sport none the less.

I think the most fun is stalking them, which I've never done before. Just freelining a bit of crust over the edge of the reeds and waiting for that take really gets the blood flowing. Especially on light tackle as I've been switching between 3lb and 8lb line.

It's also nice to be able to travel light. All I take down is one rod and reel, a couple of packs of hooks, landing net and a loaf of bread.

I think I'll do some serious Carp fishing as the way these wild Carp fight, I'd love to hook a 20+

@Losersclub: Still jealous of your Pike. Had a few nice meaty 8lb-ers out just before the end of the season. Love the runs you get when dead baiting compared to using a lure.

@Endo: getting closer to that 4lb Perch. Had one of 3lb out towards the end of last year.

I'm gearing up for a 3 night session at a private club near Gatwick on the 30th. Been a member there for about 6 years, been going there for around 20 or so. Lovely place, under lock and key, the place you can set up and bait up and then leave your gear there to go and have a beer or three at the local pub before you return at dusk to hit the tench and carp in the evening

Got a load of new gear to test out too which is what I am looking forward to. Bought a new TFG Chair which should arrive today, along with a new rod pod, plenty of tackle to make a few rigs up I saw in a video, and for the first time I am going to be trying out inline method feeding, so hope to pick up some of the carp that reside in the lake.

As its not fished regularly, the fish are lean and full of fight. Sometimes you could sit there for 10 minutes pulling in a 5lb tench, that are that tenacious.

Before that, I am off to a local gravel pit for the day on Friday to refine my rig making skills and to see if my KG1 / XLR8 Richwworth pop up boilies can clear the crayfish on the bottom and land me a few 10lb + carp

That first pike's a beaut- what did it weigh? Looks quite chunky but weirdly stubby, or is it just the ways its body's bending?

Finally got my gear over from Ireland last month and managed to get out for a session- first time in about 5 years at least. Caught loads of skimmers and quite a few little perch and not much else. Got snapped by something decent though, and my Dad lost something big too- took him into the weeds. Good fun.

I've not been for a few weeks now, but a couple of lads from work are proper hardcore Carp anglers, so they're taking me along with them to a private complex that has some real nice fish in it. I'm talking Pike upwards of 25lb, 30lb+ Carp, 10lb+ Tench and pretty much everything else you can think of, even Catfish.

Not had anything of note over the last few months though. A load of small Pike between 3lb-7lb, some Tench around the 4lb mark and a couple of Bream that were pushing 5lb.

James: A couple of nice paintbrushes there! Love the old red eyes. Shame that Mirror looks so battered though.

Endo: A couple of months ago I was on the canal having a good Tench session and twice within about 15 minutes something huge took my bait. The first time it about pulled my setup into the water and as I struck, the line just pinged back and everything was gone.

Weighed a few ounces under 17lb, quite a short fish as you say, was caught at the tail end of March so probably carrying a fair bit of spawn!

Yeah that Mirror has to be the ugliest fish in the venue i've spent most of the summer on, was after an absolute beauty that i'd seen but always got beaten to it!

Got thursday off work might nip out with the Lure rod for a couple of hours now i'm back in the mood

Just off out for a sprat bashing session today so thought I'd bring this thread up from the dead.

Not been for a few weeks, the last time was when we had those ridiculous winds. Didn't catch anything special, the best was this:

A 7lb baby, which is actually a decent fish for the River Soar, I think the biggest caught this season was around 15lb, with only a couple more doubles being taken out.

Unfortunately, the river is running really low here with no one having anything decent out, so I reckon I might go on the canal and see what I can get.

                        Nice mate

It's been a tough start to the year really after the big freeze up we had!

I've been out a few times myself, mainly blanks at the start of the year but on one venue i've only fished twice i've found a good swim and had a decent run of double figure Pike up to 18lb 6oz

Both days it was absolutely chucking it down with rain, conditions i've never done that great in before! It's a sod trying to do a self take photo when it's dry let alone when the camera is getting soaked, i end up putting them back without going through the hassle mostly!

I think this photo shows how saturated i was...

Crap photo as i chopped off half it's tail

Had a few Carp up to just under 20lb as well, but from a very easy overstocked lake so they don't really count

Good fun though, got the next 7 days off work now too so i can get stuck into the Pike before the season ends

I wish they grew that big in the rivers round here!

Had a crud day today. 7 people(including me) on the river & canal and I was the only one that caught. A nice 2lb Perch.

Seems the whole area has been pretty dead lately.

Might get back into the coarse fishing some time next year since i have a wedding to budget for this year.Used to really enjoy fishing for the perch a good few years ago.

I bought a load of gear early last year to try fly fishing but never got into it.So anybody interested in breathable waders and boots size 11/12 (brand new and boxed) and a few rods, cases of flies and other accessories then give me a PM.

There's some in the Soar mate, it's just finding them, pretty sure this fish is off the river but haven't a clue where though sorry!

The majority of my fish come from lakes & gravel pits, i find them alot easier than the rivers and canals round here
