With all that said then (and without wanting to start an iphone slagging match) is it really the device that people religiously sing the praises of?

Why on earth do apple not allow you to use the disk space as mass storage?

Why can't it multi-task, it clearly has the processing power? Surely it's not too much to ask to keep a twitter feed open all day and also be able to run another app in the background too.

And not being able to put files on as ringtones seems like a 5 year step backwards in the land of phones at least, probably more.

I like iphones I really do, I just didn't realise that they were so limiting in what they let you do and I can't really see why it's been done that way. I can appreciate that you can jailbreak them but surely that has it's risks and really, it should just work out of the box. I will do a bit more homework on the Hero as I had my eye on it already, however, maybe some of the iphone 'issues' (as I see them) will have been improved by the time I upgrade which is almost a year away.

The iphone also has the problem of,
*No bluetooth file sharing, aprt from contacts through a 3rd part app (what is this 1995 again?)
*Cant back your contacts and numbers up to the sim card, so if your iPhone is lost broken or stolen and you decide to go to another phone, you've lost every contact as its all backed up in itunes, very poor show i think still.
*Sheeeite camera, only 3mp and no flash, still. Apparently the vid camera is very good though.
*Its bloody expensive, whatever way you look at it, contract, payg or factory unlocked its going to cost you an arm and a leg.

Worst thing is that even if your a great customer, ive been with orange since year dot and i spend over ?1500 a year with them on contract through calls etc and what do i get off the iphone phone and tarrif?? NOTHING, thats right jack ****.

Dont get me wrong though i love my iphone i really do, and would probably upgrade to the 3gs, however ive been completly priced out of it thanks to apple, so when my 2g dies (soon i sense ) im going to be going elsewhere unfortunately as i just cant justify the cost. Which is a shame as it complements my 2 mac computers wonderfully with its syncing of various apps.

        WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTT?

All phones can do this though. Reasons not to get one keep adding up.

You should check out the Palm Pre Alastair if multitasking is your thing.

My basic requirements are for my phone to make and receive calls/messages, check emails and to replace my iPod. So it was a fairly easy choice for me.

Also the more programs running at once the worse they run and the more battery is used, which are the main 2 reasons for apple not allowing it.

Had a very quick look at a pre last week, seemed very 'cheap'.

My main thing is internet, calls, texts, twitter feed, music player, video player (I seem to be using iplayer a lot lately) and a chat client (as it's blocked at work).

Just seems odd to me that I have to exit the twitter feed to send a text or watch a video for example.

With regards the battery thing, that's true of any device I guess but it's manageable.

The messaging app on the Pre looks brilliant actually - it brings all forms of messaging into a single app, so that you can have a single thread per contact but you could be using SMS or IM.

Wonder how long the battery will last when jailbreakers have to download a virus scanning app:

No need for an antivirus, all people need to do is change the default root directory password to one of their own.

For example, I've just applied a 1MB 2658*2700 cover image for The Beatles Anthology 2. And I'm pretty sure that's ridiculous overkill.
I've been trying to work this out. Applied the cover from this link to Live and Let Die.

I **** ye not (5MB jump even though the image is ... 800KB?). However, when I look at the file size in Windows it's still showing 3.7MB. So where the buggery is it?

                            My iPhone turned up today.

I'm blown away by it, absolutely blown away by everything about it.

I've already spent more time gaming on it than my PSP this year!

Oh and the augmented reality in YELL kinda freaks me out, it's the future!

I wish I could get as enthusiastic about mobile phones as people on here.
