    Kebab shop chat.

What's your local kebab shop? How do you rate it, anything strange on the menu?

Do you not eat kebabs at all, are you some sort of anti-man?

The local to me is Kens Kebabs in Southsea, infact Ken has built up such an empire in Portsmouth city he has at least 10 outlets selling kebabs/burgers, chicken and now even Kens Balti!

Aside from kens the best I have tasted in this city is the Istanbul grill, before the nightclubs on the coats shut down they had another outlet awesomely titled....

My kebab shop days are behind me, but samir's in Kingston at the bottom of kingston hill was awesome. And if I wasn't in the mood for a kebab, they did chips in pitta bread with mayo and vinegar. yumm. The one in Bath near the bridge was pretty amazing too for a chicken kebab with yoghurt sauce.

best kebabs I've ever eaten were in North Germany in Kiel (the u-boat making port from WW2)

German food standards meant that even the old 'elephant leg' had a really high meat content, plus they serve in a really thick round flt bread. I'm salvating now even thinking of them.

Didin't even need to be drink to eat them, they were that good.

Establishment in makes funny shocker! H'amaze. I really did LOL

Meanwhile. I only do mail order now from Belfords Kebabs. I don't even know where they are, but their Halep is supreme. The guy says it in two sillables too. "Bel-Fords", and of course he does the customary "my friend" talks.
            Kept you waiting, huh?

What a great thread! I am especially patrial to the "Sober Kebab". In fact in going to get one for the arsenal match this avo.

We have a great kebab shop over the road from me in Fulham (Ottaman on Fulham Palace Rd - Do it)! I dont tend to go for the elephant leg anymore. A mixed Shish for me, we call it a "posh kebab". Fantastic fresh ingredients, all my mates say its the best bab theyve ever had. You dont feel dirty after eating it!

              "CHILLI SAUCE, SALAD BOSS"

              Love it.

Chilli sauce is something key to a good kebab. Needs to be hand made and have a proper consistency. Aside from that, enough grease so it isn't dry but not enough for it to make you feel greasy for the rest of the day/evening.

I tend to avoid shish kebabs as that's where you get the real awful quality meat in bad shops.

chilli sauce is great for your lamb doners but garlic sauce on a chicken kebab is mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

chilli sauce consistency is so hit & miss, my local kebab place I use for a nice chix kebab has like a chilli paste, it sticks to your mouth and does not make for a pleasant eat

Yeah, I've come across a couple of places that do a weird chilli mash. You need a proper sauce consistancy so that it'll flavour most of the meat, mashed stuff doesn't flavour anything, you only taste it by actively eating a lump of the mash. (if that makes any sense)

A lot of Kebab sauce differences seem to be regional. Here in Aberdeen you mostly get a thickish chilli sauce with a bit of heat to it.

On the other hand I was in Edinburgh earlier this week and ordered a kebab and the sauce was just a very slightly spicier smooth varient of ketchup, but they offered "pulped" green chillies to go over the top of it.

I'm a big fan of a large doner, everything on it and chilli sauce! From Ealing kebab. In fact, thinking about it makes me want one, at 2 in the afternoon. Lucky i'm in Scotland for the weekend.

One time when on the lash in Wales, i had a large doner, but instead of putting salad on it they lashed coleslaw all over it! I thought WTF???? But the thing was, it was AWESOME!!!!

Coleslaw goes nice with the pita but I imagine the reason it's not used more is because it means you can't eat it with your fingers.
