Sir Terry Wogan to leave breakfast show

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

I'm not sure how many of you listen to the most popular British radio show on BBC Radio 2 every morning during the week, but Terry Wogan's usual comedic mumblings will be no more after this morning on his own show he announced he would be stepping down from his Wake Up to Wogan show (or as his listeners sometimes put it: Wake up With Wogan).

It's a shame to see him go, but he has said he wont be leaving untill the end of this year, after which Chris Evans will take his place. Wogan has also said he will host a new live radio show in the new year, so he wont be gone completely, or as he likes to put it: 'I'll be here 'till hell freezes over'.

An audio link to him announcing the news this morning: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8241186.stm

    Boo.

Having to listen to that insufferable little twat Chris Evans in the morning just won't be the same. And I can't stand Chris Moyles bellowing and tooting his own trumpet first thing in the morning.

    End of an era.

      I'm gutted.

I've been a regular listener since 2006 when I started working in Kingston and discovered his show on the drive up there and have listened to every Podcast BBC2 have put out for the past 3 years.

I’m surprised he’s going as he’s mentioned over the past year if he was going to go he would of gone by now, I had to do a double take listening to the radio whilst getting ready this morning.

Terry Wigan, Wogan, we’re going to miss you.

Very sad news ... I'll genuinely miss hearing Wogan in the morning ... but I think Chris Evans is perfect to replace him (I think he's superb on drivetime). It'll mean a massive shift in R2's breakfast audience, but it had to happen sooner or later.

I wonder if Chuffer, Mick Stubbs, Hugh Janus and all will continue writing in or whether the BBC2 Breakfast slot will completly change and no longer be based on letters and emails?

I suspect that a lot of Wogan's listeners or writers will follow him to his new show next year, and Evans will atract a new load of listeners in the morning.

It'll be interesting to see if the breakfast slot on Radio 2 will continue to be the biggest show on Radio in the UK after Wogan leaves.

I can't imagine Chris getting many letters from Sidney Arberbridge

Personally - good riddance. Can't stand his 'clever' ho-ho, he-he Irish crap.

I don't get to listen at that time as I'm in work early, sometimes listen to Moyles - although him and his crony crew need to be burned at the stake.

Shame about Evans, I used to dislike him as I do Moyles but since he came back to Radio 2 he's actually quite a modest and entertaining bloke. For a ginger.

I don't like Wogan either. He just gibbers utter nonsense, and not in a good way. The quad pronged attack of him followed by Ken Bruce (the Scottish equivelent of Wogan), then Jeremy Vine (total twat), followed by the king of annoying c**ts, Steve "I'm so Wacky" Wright, just makes me hate daytime Radio 2. I'm not a fan of Chris Evans either, but I'm finished work by the time he arives on air, so don't have to listen to that tool either.

I don't like Wogan either. I thought I was the only one - *phew*

On Children in Need he makes loads of unfunny jokes and there's a few seconds of awkward airtime where the co-presenters wait for people to laugh or thinking there'll be a punchline.

It does my nut in when people go on about how ace he is doing Eurovision too. It's bad music and bad commentary.

Having said all that, I don't listen to Radio 2, I listen to a local rock station. Over the years they've given me over £5000 in prizes...

                          What's Wogan ever given me?!

I'm not that keen on Wogan, there is some funny stuff on his show but it all comes from the emails/mail that are from the listeners.
What I detest about Wogan is when he cries poverty/the pittance that he gets paid, joking or not we all know he gets a fortune for the small amount of work he does.

That said I miss his caustic comments on Eurovision.
