    Legal help

Can someone tell me how long a business is supposed to keep accounts of sales. Reason being is that i bought a MTB frame christmas 07 , it snapped August 08 and the replacement has just snapped. Now the manufacturer offer a two year warranty but they are saying i bought it in April 07 (this is a F%&king lie) but when i got the original replacement they never sent me the original receipt back and i paye d by cash at the time.

Now the shop say they will try and find some details but i want to know what my legal postion is here (it was not a cheap frame)

Btw PACE if your reading this, you are a bunch of crap bike building w**kers.

I think VAT records have to be kept for 7 years.

You are assuming they have this cash sale on their records

Anyone selling something as a business is required to give receipts, which should be retained for inspection by the powers that be for a number of years.
You are dissing Pace, I've used a lot of pace stuff over the years and always had good service, although now the business has been sold it may be different

          currently looking for an RC100

Ask them to prove the sale date. Failing that, trading standards are the way to go.

Am I right in saying that all bike frames have some kind of unique identification number on them?

If so, could Pace not check it against their records to determine if the new frame had even been manufactured in April 07?

Its Pace who are saying that i bought it in April 07 ,the shop recall that i bought it about the time i said (Xmas 07). I even sent the warranty card off to Pace so perhaps they will have a copy of that.

Right at least ive got a bit of ammunition to hit the shop with when i phone them on monday , then i'll give Pace a ring and try to speak to someone in charge.

                Thanks
