DRM:
Was on holiday with friend, who had brought laptop with him.
Friend: Hey, let's play Left4Dead2!
Me (knowing what was coming): ok then
Friend: WTF!
99% of the time the Steam DRM system is fine but this was a real bummer. no net connection = no can play any of the 19 games that he'd paid for.

People who sell Wii's on eBay and advertise them as coming with 5 games when it actually comes with ONE game with FIVE different sports. There is one at the moment claiming to include 14 games when it actually includes 2 - Wii Sports and Wii Play.
It's like claiming that Mario & Sonic at the olympics is actually 24 different games rather than 1 game with 24 events or that a game that offers 3 different difficulty levels to play at is actually 3 different games. It's a misleading claim and everyone who does it should get reported to eBay.Last edited by davesol; 01-03-2010, 16:34.

A couple of musical irks.
People who dismiss styles of music of which they are not interested as not being "real music". This is particularly pertinent when it's, say, a guitar snob looking down on electronically produced music as not being "real music" because it was "done on a computer". The assumption tends to be that the computer does all the work and all the end user does is push a magic button. Also related to this, the belief that the only way to compose music is with a tangible instrument.*
* For the record, I play piano and bass, so I do play instruments, but work mostly in the electronic domain, which is why it annoys me immensely to hear ignorant comments like the above. Unlike people who tend to say this, I understand both processes.Last edited by Ady; 01-03-2010, 17:48.

I'm in complete agreement there. If electronic music was so easy, it would all be amazing (and quite clearly it's not).
Plus great music has NOTHING to do with musicianship. A guitar virtuoso can make a ten minute long fretfest that can be the most boring thing on the planet, wheras some oik can smack a keyboard with their forehead whilst singing 'WOOORAAAAAAGHHH' into a microphone and it can be all full of awesome.

Can't see a line down the middle of the screen not being covered by warranty.
That's 800 dead pixels!

Current pet hate:
"GIMP" (the OSS image editor)
Couldn't they give it a name that isn't utterly embarrassing to bring up with your bosses? People wonder why OSS isn't used in businesses more...Last edited by abigsmurf; 02-03-2010, 14:41.

Why do people rush to get off planes?
The seatbelt light goes off and there's a mass clicking of people frantically undoing their seatbelts and getting their bags down from the overhead lockers so that they can stand and wait for the doors to open.
They then race down through the airport, overtaking people and whacking them with their small suitcases that have just filled the luggage compartment and stopped other people putting their stuff in, only to get to the security gate and stand and wait to have their passport checked.
They then cane it down to the empty luggage belts and stand and wait for their bags to come off the plane. Usually by leaning right over the belt and stopping other passengers from seeing their bags until the last second and then looking upset that they get knocked by them trying to lift their luggage off with no room to do it.
If people took one step back, we'd all be able to see better.
Then they rush off, dump their luggage trollies anywhere and stand and wait for a train/taxi.
This used to irk me, but now I just sit reading until the last few people are getting off and leisurely stroll about the place, chuckling that I keep seeing the same flustered people queueing again and again.

Same here, can't understand why people rush and make themselves flustered even though they know everyone is gonna get held up at the same points anyway! It's great fun seeing people shoot off into the distance and then five minutes later you're right behind them in some queue.
That irks me in general though, when people rush and even take risks to save a few seconds. Like people dodging between traffic to cross the road near my house, just to avoid waiting 10 seconds for the lights to go red. Ah well, at least they got to where they were going at 10:26 and 30 seconds instead of 10:26 and 30 seconds!

Fires in railway arches, especially those containing gas cylinders. Why let railway arches be used by dangerous businesses or the storage of dangerous materials? Apparently because it's safer than transport by road, but by christ does it **** up the rail system.
3 hours to get to work today, 3 trains across 3 different train systems. Stood the whole way and walked the last mile or so. Can you believe I only live 11 to 12 miles from where I work...
Ironically, I always carry my work laptop so I can work from home... except for last night as I was out for quiet drink with a mate and didn't want to risk it getting nicked in a busy London boozer. FML
