On TikTok, tribute videos to Splash Mountain had thousands of likes, and more than 70 containers of water purportedly swiped from the ride were up for sale on eBay.

    Splash Mountain has now closed

The Walt Disney World attraction closed for its re-theme and some had a funny way of showing they weren't happy about it

But if you grabbed some of the dirty water from the ride you can make some coin

I already got the best ever photo I'm ever going to get on the one and only splash mountain ride we went on last year.

So glad we got to ride it before the change, I just need to make a Splash Mountain themed frame to show off the picture in if we ever get it printed. Even before its planned closure was announced the price of the merch frames was high.

Florida Lawmakers Unveil Plan For State Control Of Disney World Special District – Deadline
Short term showboating by the Republicans looks likely to increase the chances Disney World stops being as big a focus for Disney and a long term playing of fire with the local economy

I had to re-read the title a few times, but this is a pretty big deal.

Basically, the bill will strip The Walt Disney Co. of its 55 years of control over a special district covering Walt Disney World.

This was pushed by Ron DeSantis, the Republican Governor of Florida.

The problem is, DeSantis already has beef with Disney:
"Last year, after Disney came out against parental rights legislation — dubbed by opponents as a “don’t say gay” bill — DeSantis targeted the company, leading an effort to strip it of a special district that oversees much of its Florida theme park property. He blasted Disney as a “ woke ” corporation while characterizing the retaliatory move as a way to end the special arrangement Disney set up in the 1960s to self-govern its property.

Opponents called the legislation a “power grab” by DeSantis, and raised the prospect that the governor would use the district board to punish Disney even for its content decisions.

“Are we going to see the board vetoing projects that are considered to go against any governor?” said Rep. Rita Harris (D-FL).

She cited Disney‘s recent decision to transform Splash Mountain into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the latter viewed as an effort by the company for more diversity and inclusivity.

“What if the governor didn’t like that?” Harris said. “Would the board be able to push the company into changing their business model…This is not the free market.”"

So on one hand you can see that one company allowed to govern itself is unfair to the competing theme parks, but it seems to have been done my someone with a personal beef with Disney rather than any altruistic reasons.

Anyone in government using "woke" in pejorative terms raises alarm bells to me.

Yeeeeeah, this guy sounds like a right prick...

Ron DeSantis’ academic restrictions show he hopes to change history by censoring it
Florida’s Stop Woke Act and ban on African American studies will only deprive students of the right to think and learn

"For some time now, conservative groups have pressured libraries and classrooms to remove certain “controversial” books from their shelves and their syllabi. These are texts that tell uncomfortable or unpopular truths about our nation’s origins, including inequality, race, history, gender, sexuality, power and class – a range of subjects that a small but vocal group of Americans would prefer to ignore or deny.

These efforts achieved one of their most notable successes last April when the Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, signed the Stop Woke Act, which prohibits in-school discussions about racism, oppression, LBGTQ+ issues and economic inequity. Books that have not been officially vetted and approved must be hidden or covered, lest teachers unknowingly break an ill-defined law against distributing pornography – a felony."

            Even Trump hates him!

Ron DeSantis say he’s too busy ‘delivering results’ to respond to ‘defamatory’ Trump claim

"In a series of statements on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Mr Trump responded to a post from a user showing a low-quality photo of a man with a resemblance to Mr DeSantis standing with a group of young women with blurred out faces, one of whom appears to be holding a beer bottle.

“Here is Ron DeSanctimonious grooming high school girls with alcohol as a teacher,” a caption on the user’s post reads, using a Mr Trump’s derrogatory nickname for the Florida governor."

He is Trump's biggest rival for the Republican nom, that's why. And he might beat him.

Yep, DeSantis is the pay off of what the real damage is that Trump has done to America. He's opened a door that will take decades to close again

DeSantis and his lackeys are furious after getting their board control through to **** off Disney in Florida only to realise that 24 hours before the takeover Disney had multiple legal agreements made in the state that last for several decades and collectively tie DeSantis's boards hands so that they effectively have no power till long after their careers are over

"Particular focus was paid to one section that board members said locked in development rights of a particular parcel until 21 years after the death of the youngest current descendant of King Charles, or until Disney abandons the resort."

My sister is currently back out there with her family.
I'm immensely jealous, but they're mainly back there because they didn't plan everything with military precision like we did and only did half the stuff.

They wasted times in malls and crap like that. rolleyes.

Messaged her the other day and she was in the queue for Avatar at Animal Kingdom.

They didn't even make a spreadsheet?!?

No joke, you really have to do that when visiting from the UK unless the money isn't much to you and you could easily go again without much hassle.

So, we planned all the park days in advance, so we knew when we'd be there, then I'd prep what rides we'd attempt, looking at the popular ones, which ones we could and couldn't book.

So, for Animal Kingdom, for example, we weren't Disney Guests (we stayed at a Universal hotel), so didn't get that extra hour to book rides, so we booked ASAP, but got the Expedition Everest late morning and Kilimanjaro safari in the afternoon.
As soon as we got there, we went straight for Avatar and queued, because you couldn't skip it.

So with those 3 tentpole activities planned, the rest of the day was loose and we did stuff like the Avatar boat cruise, the kite show, looking at the animals (naked mole rats FTW) and the various other bits.

We were back in Pandora at the end of the day and we all agreed to do Avatar again, which worked in our favour as a lot of smaller kids and their families had left, so not only had the queue got shorter, but by the time we got to our pod, we were literally the only people on the ride and had our pick of seats.

By the time it ended, the sun had set and Pandora was all lit up with fluorescent lights like the films, which looked AMAZING!

You have these major events and play the others by ear, depending on queue times, by checking the app, so we were focused but not regimented in our approach and I felt that worked best.

Side note: we watched a tonne of Molly videos on AllEars, but she's recently left and started "Mammoth Club", which is exactly the same content, but it belongs to her. She's the best!

Yeah, this is the advice we got and it definitely worked for us.

Start off by listing the things which are "must-do's" for the entire trip. Use that to pick which parks on which day. Then, for each day, decide the main things you want to do, list the stuff that you also want to do, and then just an unsorted list of other stuff.

You can't rigorously plan the day because it never quite goes to plan anyway, and you want to be able to be flexible. Sometimes you go on a ride just because you're passing it and it's got a 10-minute wait (we went on Star Tours ~10 times for this reason).

                          Comment

Yeah, for Disney's Hollywood Studios, we had booked the tentpoles of Smuggler's Run in the morning, followed by the Indiana Jones show and I think Star Tours in the afternoon, with the 50's diner booked for lunch.

We freestyled everything else, flying into Muppets 4D, but having to queue for the Mickey's Runaway Train, which you couldn't skip.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance was closed all day as it kept breaking down.
It finally opened at the end of the day and I said I really wanted to do it, so of all the parks and rides, this was the one that we queued longest for because they had to clear all the people who had paid to skip the queues first.

We'd prepped stuff like card games that you can hold or the Heads-Up app and we talked about our favourite rides and doing the rankings, but this was the only time we let the kids watch vids on a phone because it was so late in the day, whilst we chatted to people in the queue around us, which is something I loved doing and we met some interesting people like an Illumination animator on the Ratatouille ride!

So, by the end of the trip, we'd done every park and literally the only rides we couldn't get on was the Seven Dwarfs Mine Cart (new ride, no fast passes) at Magic Kingdom and Tower of Terror at Hollywood because we chose Rise instead, which was the best decision as it's easily one of my most fave rides ever!

We used a combination of booking the rides on the phone app, checking queue times and making the most of early advantages at Universal. We got a fast pass for Universal for a couple of days and stopped for one night in a premier hotel to get another 2-day pass, which was genius!

Honestly I don't think you missed much. This was one of our biggest - well, disappointments is the wrong way to put it, because we weren't expecting a lot - but it just wasn't all that. The animatronics were fine, but it was just a decent roller-coaster. Honestly I preferred Splash Mountain and Thunder Moutain Railroad.

Yeah, we were totally fine with not going on these.
We went on nearly 60 rides in all the parks, so we could cope missing a couple of them.
