Just picked up 32GB WiFi iPad 3 for me and 32GB 4G iPad for the misses and both are unable to activate, both get to the point of activating then after about 5 minutes both come up with the message "Your iPad could not be activated because the activation server cannot be reached. Try connecting your iPad to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few minutes."

I've tried connecting via iTunes to activate but iTunes just hangs trying to connect to the iTunes store. Any one else had this problem, I'm unable to speak to apple until they open tomorrow. I've tried looking online and any info I've found is what I've already done above. Thanks in advance for help.

A new jailbreak was released yesterday so there may be some extra traffic hitting Apple for a few days Noel.

Thanks for the heads up, I jailbroke my ipod touch ages ago (back in iOS3 days before I sold it) and loved all the extra freedom. Already got a new theme and some emulators (Which work splendidly with the Wiimote) and extra features (shake to open Google!) on the go

iOS 6 announced and will include Apple's own maps to replace Google Maps, and Siri support for the newest iPad (Looks like iPad 2 loses out)

iOS 6 won't be coming to the original iPad however

Hi my laptop is on its last legs, im thinking of geting an ipad,

Would you say it could replace a laptop which is windows ,

                  my use would include
internet surfing, watching videos online ect, ebay listing and buys , can ipda browse as good as a pc ?
                  are there any limitations ?
i of course want to try the apps and gaming would be cool, i take it things like icade can be used with emulaters ? would it need to be jail broken ?

i see a 3rd gen for ?399 from john lewis with 2 years cover is that a good deal

                  thanks

There's no Flash support on the iPad but otherwise it is an excellent device for web browsing. It uses Safari just like a Mac or Windows and sites look great with the high resolution display. Arguably better than most PCs unless you have a high resolution screen. A lot of sites now host iPad compatible video.
The eBay app is really good it's easy on the eyes and simple to use.
I have stopped using my good lady's laptop other than for syncing my iOS devices. And the amount of games I have on the iPad is silly. All those great Cave shooters and tons of great indie titles.
I have the iCade and like it but I have not used Jailbreak on my iPad so don't know about the emulator stuff.

I may be wrong but isn't a pocket sized iPad an iPhone?

It's Apples plan to eventually have a 40 product strong range, all discernable by inch size.

This needs to be a true iPad step up or they'll start the rocky road of watering down the brand, it's very soon after iPad 3

Things to think about when trying to replace a computer with an iPad are:

                          1. Flash websites - do you need support?
                          2. Printing - Do you print? Can you continue to print from your ipad?
                          3. Computer software you use that has no equivalent on iPad or would require you to buy replacement software
                          4. Putting music, photos and movies onto your ipad - you can't rip a cd or dvd on an ipad, nor can you plug in a memory stick for example.

                          Oooh one more

You can't simply save a file on an ipad. If someone sends you a PDF for example, you can;t just save that to your My Documents folder. You need to keep that email and open it up from there or otherwise install some other app that you can send it to. An endless source of frustration for my wife. In conjunction with not being able to print it can make things very awkward e.g. daughter's new school emails documentation about requirements for new starters. My wife is totally unable to print it out; she can;t simply print it. She can't save to to a shared folder so the main PC can print it either. Her only option is to find an actual real computer, retrieve the email again and take it from there.

Flash support shouldn't be such a big one anymore, most sites are implementing HTML5 and doing away with flash or have a good enough fallback to cover most needs.

I wouldn't replace my laptop with my iPad, though I've heard from some people that carrying an iPad + keyboard is sufficient for them. See this, for example: http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/29/review...n-to-creation/

Note that the new Android tablets are also dropping support for Flash, as Adobe is phasing it out.

PDFs can be opened and saved in iBooks. Which is free and preinstalled on the iPad.
