    Washine machine repairs

    edit-washing machine, lol

    Hi,

could I please get some advice as I know nothing about consumer law on this matter.

I purchased a Hotpoint washer/dryer about 2.5 years ago, which has stopped working. I think it's the electronics as it won't power on.

I have the 5 year manufacturer's parts guarantee but foolishly didn't take the 5 year full guarantee.

Apparently they charge a large service charge to install the parts.

Can anyone advise on the best option?

It failing to power on could be something as simple as a fuse blowing however if you're not mechanically minded that's still possibly something you'd not be able to fix yourself (although there are probably guides around the internet for common maintenance).

Try phoning Hotpoint first and see if they'll give you a quote

And next time, get a Miele which go on for decades (albeit costly to buy). They often come with 5 or 10 year guarantees included (my washer, drier and dishwasher all did).

Well, the reason I'm thinking it might cost a bit is the electronics went on my last machine and the engineer suggested I just buy a new one. Which is the one that's just messed up .

Charles I'd never heard of that make till I saw it mentioned in a thread here a while back, if I have the cash I definitely will buy one (some day).
