I redesigned the cover of Match magazine for my art GCSE, got an A

IIRC, I gouached David Seaman onto the front of it, and he was a horrendous shade of orange. Someone was, anyway. I've no idea what happened to all that stuff.

Blatantly off topic now, but remember the Match Wallcharts with the little team shirts you moved around each week in the tables? Did everyone do them?

Do they still exist? I might pick one up next season

I never had a set but was always playing it round mates houses. Always great fun - always 60fps and full HD with 3D ;-)

Anyone read Roy of the Rovers? That had a subbuteo based story called Mike's Mini Men. Mike was a bit of loser in my opinion and had to play games against the school bully who I seem to remember looked older, had a big nose and a bit of a perm. People were always stealing his best players just before a big match, I think it was Tolcaster Rovers or some other made up team. I also remember that the posistion of his goalkeeper kept changing, one panel had him arms out strecthed and the other had his arms by his side.

I had this when I was in love with South American football, 1970 World Cup. I had Brazil, Chile, Peru and Argentina. Would take it to school and play on the wooden classroom floor if we couldn't play with a tennis ball outside (those amazing thirty odd a side games). Got lots of broken legs that way ...

Used to love subbuteo. Just always found it a pain setting it all up, especially if you had lights, grandstands and all the other bits and bobs. You couldn't reach over it.

My mates brother was world champion at it when he was at University in the early 90's. I'll see if i can get a pic of his trophy as its still at his mums house, lol

I was actually thinking that this would make a decent iphone/desire game about a month ago.

There's an Xbox LIVE Indie Game that takes the look of Subbuteo, but it plays more like normal football games. There's also a turn based football game but it's rubbish.

The footy in Kinect Sports feels a little bit like Subbuteo now I think about it...

Have you tried the DS version??

It sucks all kinds of bum
I was well hyped for it & was so let down it wasn't even funny

Still the only way to play is properly.

Whaa? A subbuteo game on a console? That's truly pointless. Like having a tommy tank simulator.

There was a Subbuteo game on the C64 as well, way back when. It was pap.

Think I had that on the Spectrum as well & I do remember it being a bit poop as well.

Oh yes the DS game was pointless...you could hardly see anything to gauge the flicks properly so I spent most of my time flicking everything out of play.

I've decided this Sunday I'm digging everything out again for a proper look over.
See what condition it's all in & how many balls have split in pieces.

lol, the white balls go yellow The 'grass' cloth goes bobbly, and no matter how well you take care of it all, there is always atleast one player that gets treaded on! So you try and super glue it better, but superglue from the 80s was not built to last (regardless of what it says on the tin) so you will find a yellow stain where the superglue once did its job.

I always remembered Subuteo as a tedius game, that was more fun to watch than to take part

Lol & just how painful was it when you stood on a player barefooted???
Apart from treadin on an upturned plug that one is way up there for me

I hate to think how many player got snapped during our world cup campaigns.

I also had that. Had forgotten all about it!

Me and my brother used to play subbuteo almost every saturday morning. we put numbers on all the players backs so that we could introduce a (fairly complex) yellow / red card system based on the number and type of foul commited by each player (i remember that fouls from behind were a straight yellow). I think it is still at my parents house so may try to dig it out next time i am round there and give it another go
