Firstly, I think the women producing the milk are abusing the privilege to be able to produce milk for their babies, so I think it's a bit wrong. They could be donating it to a milk bank. True story...

Secondly, breast milk isn't really meant for adults. In fact, there was a documentary on a few years back about kids around 7 still breastfeeding. "Bitty, Mummy?". Even that seemed very very wrong.

Breast milk is actually amazing for babies though, it's like a whole meal! It starts off quite watery (like soup), then goes firmer (like a main course) and finally sweeter (like pudding!). Babies can even have a favourite boob! Breastfeeding also releases a hormone so that the Mother can go back to sleep quicker after feeding in the night!

Boobs: They never stop being fascinating.

I'm in awe of your encyclopaedic knowledge of breasts and breastfeeding, QC.

Well are those with a lactating fetish. Seems a bit oedipal to me, though...

What next, cheese made from breast milk?

(This thread has made it apparent that this forum needs a vomit smiley..)

Eating human produce is just distasteful for a lot of people.

I'm taking that to an extreme but you could also apply that same argument to cow meat.

Women drink sperm. I think it's a social thing. If drinking breast milk was accepted among most folks, it would be easier for others to start too. It would eliminate the "weirdness" associated with it. Just like it's socially acceptable to swallow sperm, as most women actually do it.

Yes. The news article said they ran medical tests and apart from the cost the only thing I would want to know would be who actually donated. Just to make sure they wouldn't be a STD pit.

We share saliva when we kiss. We consume each others juices when we go down on each other. The water that we drink has been through many many people.

I like the idea of knowing where it came from before you'd eat it. If this thing takes off perhaps they can treat them like Lobsters where they trot them out for inspection before you go "I think I'll have that one."

And all I know is I don't pay 14 quid a throw to kiss / perform sex acts on someone.

                ...

                ...

                ...

It's usually a lot more! *budum tish*

As far as I am aware we are the only mammal that drinks other mammal's milk.

                  Still wouldn't though!

"You can buy alcohol and tobacco but not breast milk in Westminster."
Following on from his earlier comment about the milk donors being free range, I can only conclude this guy is an utter moron.

Still, he has gained a lot of free publicity, so maybe not.

The more I think about it, the more the whole thing smacks of just being some pretentious bourgeois garbage for people who feel the need to have something to talk about at their extravagant dinner parties.

As already said I bet the guy is loving all the free publicity this has given him.

It's quite a weird taste. Overly sweet. Not my thing. I'd try it once if it was a lot cheaper though.

Pasteurisation doesn't kill bacteria, only stops it from multiplying. Pasteurisation makes milk that's being stored for a while safer.

If she picks up an infection in between screenings, she could spread that infection to dozens of people. Which infections? HIV, Hepatitis B and Syphilis. All can be spread through breast milk.
