    Bicycle Tires

Right, i'm a big lump of a lad. I weigh 18 stone and built like a brickhouse. :joke:

I'm looking at some Tyres now, but i want a pair that would support my fat arse and not go flat on me. My wheels are 26 x 1.95. Can anyone help a feller out?

The type of tyre depends on where you plan to ride. I only ride on road and use schwable puncture proof tyres. It doesn't matter how heavy you are, just make sure they are properly pumped up. I often see folks pedaling around on nearly flat tyres.

Thanks mate, i'm going to be using them on the road so those might be up my street.

I've used these Continental Double Fighters for a while and they are a great compromise. Low rolling resistance on the road but a bit of grip on the edges for the occasional off road section.
Don't worry about your weight just pump them up to 70 PSI

BTW - over here we say Tyres

I swear by armadillos, i'm a lump too and never had a puncture with them on my commute rides into the city which was a 25mile round trip

Thanks mate, will check those out. I did write Tyres, but my firefox auto-corrected it for me. Well thats my excuse anyway. Is that price on the website just for the one tyre?

And thanks for echoing merf, will grab a pair of these.

Another vote for Armadillos here. Never had a puncture with them and the ample sidewall seems to aid the ride despite the tyre being so stiff.

Can anyone recommend me a decent pump?

Don't like Shwalbe, Continental or Panaracer for me. Though Specialized are supposed to be the dogs.

I use a Topeak Mini DX. Comes with a nice little bracket which fits onto the bottle bosses. Two stroke (it pumps as you pull out as well as push in) and has a locking function too.
You can pay a little more for one with a pressure gauge but you don't really need it.

Someone bought me one of these a few years ago. Totally overkill for a single bike but I love it.
It has adigital display in psi, bars etc and easily inflates road tyres to 90 psi. Will top up a car tyre and camp beds etc.

                    Bosch PAG

On a more sensible note it is hard to beat a basic pump as long as you have room for it in your bag.
The compact ones are more trouble than anything.

For an MTB tyre you might get away with a compact pump as they don't need as much pressure, but you'll be pumping for a looong time to get it up to that pressure if you get a flat, but personally I'd recommend anything by Genuine Innovations. I got a second wind road pumpy and it's brilliant. Far, far better than the ?5 basic jobbie I got from the LBS (looked like the above picture)

As for tyres, I'll pimp anything by Vittoria. For the money their cheaper ranges take some beating, unless I can find something else on special offer then they're always my go-to and I've never been disappointed.

Not sure what mini dual action pumps you've been using, but I've got one years old that pumps up a tyre from flat fairly quickly. I've got an expensive floorstanding track pump too, but it's not much quicker.

The one I have seems to work great on Presta valves but not on Schrader. I though that the insert needed reversing but it doesn't appear to help.

Ah. I only ever buy presta (because they fit through either size). I've not tried it in schra mode.

I tried a little Lezyne in a store once, which is the sum total of my experience (aside from hearsay on forums) and it took forever to inflate a properly flat tyre. They were 2.3" balloons, but still...night and day between that and my Joe Blow and that alone was enough to convince me to get a full size pump. Maybe I should revisit the mini pump?
