    Another important question

What would happen if Gizmo ate after midnight?
    Would you take that risk?

Gizmo (also referred to as "Giz") is the protagonist in Gremlins movie franchise and Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Gizmo is an adorable, very kind Mogwai who is part of Billy Peltzer's life. Originally owned by Sam Wing, Gizmo lives with Billy and Kate Peltzer in New York. Gizmo helps Billy to defeat the gremlins each time they get loose. Gizmo can also display many emotions. Gizmo is a small, furry creature with a round body covered in soft white and brown fur. His head is large compared to

According to the novelization of the first film, mogwai are the result of genetic manipulations by an alien scientist to create a creature that would evoke good-naturedness and goodwill amongst the galaxy. However a slight miscalculation caused all but 1 in 10,00 to be mischievous and/or evil and the transformation mogwai can go through being totally unintended. Only one in ten thousand are gentle, and as a result is hated by his brethren. Also, this previously mentioned mogwai is effectively immortal. As Gizmo is gentle, and has a long list of historical figures that have owned him, it is clear that he is this mogwai type. If this mogwai eats after midnight though, he will lose his longevity, becoming a typical gremlin. However, as this is never mentioned in the movie, the credence to this nature of the mogwai/Gizmo is unknown.

Surely it's always after the previous midnight, so no matter when they eat, it should be bad! That's the one thing that I want explained about Gremlins. It haunts me!!

There's a scene in Gremlins 2 where characters go over all the plot holes caused by the rules.

There is? Blimey, my memory is going dodgy in my old age, I've seen Gremlins 2 a couple of times and don't remember that part

Time for a google to refresh the memory!

Edit: Oh yeah, I remember now, stuff like someone asking "What happens if something gets stuck in their teeth and it comes loose after midnight?".

I still love the large mistake of the first film...all that snow and no Gremlins reproducing like crazy.

Brought that point up somewhere else before and someone got really serious about the science behind it >.<

Wow, Mogwai are immortal? Mind. Blown.

Phoebe Cates needs to be in more. Gremlins 3, please.

HELL NO! Those things scare me silly.

As a child I absolutely loved the series - I had the merchandise, watched the film almost every week and brought all those comics that came with tapes to listen to as you read along. That changed one winter when I was watching the film quite happily as I put up Christmas decorations. I went to the kitchen to get a drink, came back in and saw those green ones on the screen and burst into tears as suddenly they were the scariest thing ever. I still can't watch it at 20, ugh.
