Red Arrow crash - Bournemouth Air Festival

An RAF Red Arrows pilot dies when his plane crashes following a display at the Bournemouth Air Festival in Dorset.

Red 4 crashed, MOD have stopped all filming and haven't released any updates on the pilot.

    Doesn't look good

Sucks for him and the show. Been a real struggle as last year was a washout and thursday this year we had mental floods.

Came down less than a mile from my parents' house. They were inside the exclusion zone once all the emergency services got there.

But yeah, I don't know what's happening with this year's air show. The floods the other day were like nothing I've ever seen and now this.

I do kind of feel bad for complaining about the noise when they were flying over my place earlier, though.

Two years ago everything was great, clear skies, sunny but not too hot weather. Last year most of it was rained off, and the weather was bad, dark grey skies, rain, and uncomfortably humid.

This year, that flooding, worse than anything I've ever seen round here, the lack of Eurofighters and the Vulcan, and now this terrible accident. My thoughts are with the pilot's colleagues and family.

I've seen the Red Arrows a few times previous and every time I think to myself what would happen if they were to collide; they fly so dangerously close to each other in the manoeuvres. At Goodwood they would close the car parks during their display, so that they would have a place to aim for if a plane was going down, rather than into the crowd.

They are brave men to stay in the plane to ensure that they don't hurt/kill anyone else when something goes wrong.

Not sure where to put this, but it's a real tragedy. Almost an entire KHL team wiped out in an air crash. Fatalities included some very notable ex-NHLers, such as Pavol Demitra. A terrible summer for the sport, with the death of current player Derek Boogaard, and the suicides of Rick Rypien and Wade Belak.
