What are your favourite three possessions?

As I slowly start to clear loads of stuff out before my move, it's got me thinking about what I own that I just couldn't imagine not having. Forgetting the big stuff, like houses and cars, what three things do you own that you love most? I'd imagine most people have items of sentimental attachment, family members don't count as you don't own them, but you can have pets! I'm definitely expecting to see a lot of gadgets in these top three lists..........

    For me:

1 - My music collection, as it's just such a massive part of my everyday life (So in turn I suppose that means my iPod or MacBook pro as it's where I store it)

2 - My favourite guitar - Pure sentimental attachment with that one.

3 - My dog! I'm feeling pretty unmaterialistic these days, so had to go for something living, and I love the lunatic to bits!

Interesting one and pretty hard to answer!

1 - Probably would be Shimjiro and Hana-chan. These are two little tigers that are my daughters favourite toys. Shimajiro came first, 18 months ago and she takes him everywhere. She has also lost him twice and I have searched all over town to find him. These toys mean so much to her and as a result mean so much to me.

When she grows out of them I will keep them. They are also impossible to replace as they come as part of a month magazine in Japan so they could well be the only ones in the UK.

2 - NTSC U/C Ridge Racer V. Not only is this one of my fav games ever, it was a gift from my late friend Keith. I met him in the 32bit generation and we became firm friends from then on.

3 - Super Nintendo. Since getting another machine this year I have rediscovered so much of my teen years through this machine. It is a mix of nostalgia for sure but I still genuinely enjoy playing on it.

Here is a pic of Selphie with the two tigers!

      Good thread.

Rolex Submariner- wanted one of these for the best part of twenty years, finally bought one three years ago, pre-owned, has not left my wrist since, classic.

My DVD collection, more specifically my collection of classic film noir DVDs from the 40s and 50s. Hardboiled classics that not only let me escape into another world, but have changed me as a person.

My iPhone- indispensable Jack of all trades.

I'm trying not to care about physical posessions any more but some things do link you to the past so it is hard to let go of them.

I can't think of 3, but my music collection (which I don't really even see as posessions, I just like the music contained on them), a few comics which were the first ones I ever bought and take me back to the age of five...

I had a Superman anniversary gold coin from the 80s that I always liked for sentimental reasons but it seems someone stole it. I've tried to replace it but can't find it, which is odd as they must have made loads of them.

My Rocky Mountain Hammer Mountain Bike. For years (since 2003) it has outperformed me, but now I'm reaching its limits - it can't cope with some of the things I'm asking it to do these days, both in terms of grip in corners and in terms of ability to cope with bumps at high speeds (25-30mph). I'll get a new bike but will miss this one immensely.

I can't think of anything else that I'd class as a favourite at the moment. They are just "stuff"

I misread possessions as positions so was a little disappointed when I got into the thread!

            Mine are:
            • iPad
            • Xbox and related gubbins
            • Necklace of a Kiwi carved from bone

              1. Family Photographs/videos
              2. My Wedding Ring
              3. My Shotgun- Always kept close in case of impending Zombie/Chav/Alien/Killer Spider attack.

In all honesty it goes without saying if it was a burning house type situation I'd obviously rescue my dogs before any of the above but I'm not counting the lads as possessions, they're family now

Like Neil I can't count my cats as possessions so my list would likely be:

US Super Nintendo and games: It's discoloured and doesn't have a box, but it's given me years of service and is still my number one console ever.

Music Collection: None of your ipod nonsense, I mean all my cds. Boxes upon boxes of them, but have been buying since I was 16 and they have soundtracked my adult life.

I can't think of a third one off hand. I may come back and edit this after a think.

I'm with Neil. My cat isn't a posession, she's family!! Poppy - my 14 year old long haired tortoiseshell cat. My rock during the difficult first 6 months of this year. Whenever I was down or upset she was there to give me a big, purry cuddle and made me feel loads better.

                  1. 2-in-1 here. My signed-by-everyone-at-Harmonix copy of Rock Band 3. Memories of my awesome EA funded trip to Boston last October. My E3 2010 badge. Memories of my awesome Microsoft funded trip to LA last June. I love my job!!

                  2. My Evisu jeans. The most comfortable denim I've ever worn. Pricey but they look soooo good!!

                  3. My PS3. Nuff said.

                    1. My Data - OK, I wouldn't like it if all my entire music/film collection went missing - but as long as I have the data as backup it woudn't matter so much. Digital Lifestyle and all that. Also, I would keep my photos and pr0n.

                    2. My House - for sentimental reasons and cos it's a lovely house in a great location

                    3. My Dog - she will be mine!!!!

Nothing. I gave up/gave away/sold/threw out so much stuff before coming here it isn't worth thinking about. All that save data and sentimental value that went with it too... it sends shivers down my spine.

This may sound strange but I can't think of three favourites. Looking about my room and the house the only thing that would be an essential save from a fire would be my phone just for all the photos and memories it has on there. Likewise a memory stick full of photos would suit this purpose too.
Everything is else is just stuff that can be replaced on the most part but memories of my old cats can't physically be replicated.

Edit: Thought of one! It was literally in front of my eyes the whole time. Specs. Took so long getting a pair that feels just right with the prescription, size and weight that I would be lost (and blind) without these.

1: My Original Megadrive. I got it as a suprise when i was about 10 and still have it now. Plus its still in full working order (eat that xbox)

2: My surround sound. Its not an audiophile level by any standard, but I put alot of research into buying it and saved up for months to get it all. Still tinker with it now to get the best out of it.

3: My photos. All the pics of my childhood holidays and festivals and friends. You can't replace them.

                              My stereo system.
My tatty, torn and faded copy of the Tao Te Ching.
An oil painting hanging on my wall of Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night' painted by my crazy poet hippy drug dealer.
