    Warding off Star Wars

The Star Wars hype is over us again with the release of the blu-rays. For several reasons (the edits, poor transfers, lack of decent bonus material, Lucas being a dick etc...) I have decided not to buy this set. If no better editions are released before the 3D editions coming in a few years, I will buy those instead. But all this hype has infected me, so right now I'm jonesing for the movies something bad. But I will not give in to the dark side. So in order to keep my Star Wars need at bay, I have decided to instead consume Star Wars in ways other than the movies themselves:

-I recently watched Family Guys Blue Harvest, while not the greatest SW spoof in the world, it had a few clever jokes and imitated the feel well enough.
-Read Topless Robots Star Wars Blu-Ray FAQ (the guy behind the excellent Transformers FAQs)
-I miiiiight get myself LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga. Have played LEGO SW2, and while it's super simple, it has tons of charm and really encapsulates much of the feel of the real movies, cool co-op too.
-Watched the excellent short Thumb Wars. Super silly and full of lols.

Anybody else in the same boat? Got any other cool Star Wars stuff to recommend?

    I've never seen Star Wars.

    Any of them.

    That is all.

Not missing much. The first 3 are alright the first time and the modern ones are poop.

Could we skip the "Star Wars is overrated and/or for kids" discussion this time?

        Edit:
Screw you guys I'm going watching Something, Something, Something Darkside.

How can people get so hyped over something that is over 30 years old? I mean, I know a lot of people love the movies and fair enough but at the end of the day a HD transfer is barely going to improve peoples enjoyment, if at all.

Watch the Plinkett reviews of the prequel trilogy, over at RedLetterMedia. They're about 90 minutes long each, so it would make a good marathon. I think they're such funny and intelligent assassinations that even fans of the prequels should be able to enjoy them.

Me neither. I've been holding out for the BDs before I watch them (hell, I waited this long, I may as well see them in high-ish quality).

When i think of star wars i think of that well known expression "you can't polish a turd" & yet old Lucas keeps doing just that.

Something Something Something Darkside was awesome, as was LEGO Star Wars - The Padawan Menace. It's a Trap! isn't bad either.

Yeah the Family Guy SW specials are really the best way to enjoy SW these days. Reminding you of all of the great bits of Star Wars, without the fat and post-completion messing, while making you laugh too. I found the Blue Harvest one to be somewhat hit and miss in places (song sequence too long, for example) but I loved the two sequels.

The Family Guy SW specials kinda make me wish he'd do some more pure parodies. Seth Macfarlane seems to be a much better comic writer when he's constrained by a set plot.

                        Haters gonna hate.

I love Star Wars (the original trilogy, that is).

I'm not going to bother with Blu-Ray, tired of Lucas' continuing changing of the films.

I preferred the Robot Chicken Star Wars over the Family Guy ones tbh.

I love Star Wars. I've not seen the prequels since the cinema, but I'm looking forward to seeing them again. Right now, I'm watching one of the original trilogy every weekend with my 4 year old son. He loves Star Wars. Watching them with him, it's a great experience.

I'll certainly be picking up the BR release once the set is around the ?30 mark. I may not like all the changes, but it is the best way to watch the movies on my 106 inch scope screen, and I'll enjoy myself immensely

If you're after something to get you back into it again, check out the figures. They're superior by far to the ones I had as a kid. Loads of articulation so you can pose them properly, they even look like the characters. My son has a few of the new ones, plus a load of mid 90's figures his uncle gave him (which are funny because basically Luke & Co are pumped up on steroids). For his birthday I've got him the new AT-AT which is over 2 feet high, and for Xmas they large Falcon, again something like 2 1/2 feet long it's massive compared to the one I had as a kid. Awesome

I want the 'original' Special Editions on BR. I'm not spending any more money on Star Wars until we get that rendition.

                              The prequels suck hard.
