Good London Bars for us Geeky Types

    Hello.

I'm going out with some friends in London on Saturday and I need some suggestions from the Londoners here about good bars/pubs to go to.

The reason I ask is because we want a nice chilled bar that isn't full of c**ks. We only meet up a couple of times a year so we want somewhere to relax an chat. Are there any Japanese bars?

    Thanks for any help!

Im not from london but there was a great bar i visited pretty much opposite game focus on goodge street, just down from the tesco metro good not watered down beer (the landlord was from up north ) and the food was nice but a little expensive but was pretty good (think i got a sausage and chips sharing platter was about ?7-8) and ?3 a pint-ish best of all though about 2 minute walk from the underground/TCR (red line)

you could always see if Brewdog Camden is open yet (supposed to be in December but not sure when if you want a really really good beer, just dont order any food other than the cheese board) - just checked its the launch on Saturday might be heaving there then I would still go for a couple though

Bar in Camden with no c**ks? Good luck with that.

Me and my friends quite like the Two Brewers on Monmouth Street near Seven Dials, but it might be a bit small if there's a lot of you.

Basically, avoid anything near Leicester Square and Covent Garden and you'll be fine in the West End. And if you don't like the one you're in, move. There's bloody hundreds of them about.

Had a look at http://www.fancyapint.com/ ?- I found it to be pretty reliable with its recommendations.

The Blues Kitchen, Camden. Live Blues bands every night for free who are always awesome and an amazing selection of Bourbon Whiskeys and food... if you like that sort of thing. However it can get very loud and noisy closer to the time the bands play (around 9/10ish till late.) Also, check out Nintendisco if your friends are gamers!

            Thanks for the suggestions!

I've been doing some searching and I think we might be trying Life near Farringdon/Barbican. It is a Japanese bar and shop. If that doesn't work out, Blues Kitchen sounds good.

Once blues kitchen gets busy it's horrible. Poor service, nightmare getting to the toilets as you have to fight through the band crowd to get to them. (And it's a very narrow bar at that point considering the layout) Unless you've arrived early and managed to nab a table I'd personally avoid. Only been in it twice though to be fair, but I certainly wouldn't go back for a third attempt.
