Are you using that to learn guitar Matt? Had thought of getting one for the nephew as he'd hit a wall, thought it might be a more fun way for him to learn.

No mate, I've been playing 20 years; though not in a band for maybe 12 years, so rarely play these days. My shredding days are long gone, lol.

I'm unsure if learning in Rock Band is actually the best way. The notes fly down the screen, you can't pause without a big block obscuring them, so learning solos is really hard going. I got it because I wanted to get back into playing a bit, I regularly play Rock Band 3 and messing around with the rest of the real song in the background is awesome! I was delighted to find out you can turn the instrument sound down, so you effectively turn off the proper guitar track so it's just your own.

I have no doubt it would be more fun playing this way than on your own though. Unless you're really good, playing electric guitar without any other instruments tends to sound crap. Add a band in there and you automatically sound a hundred times better A plus of the Sanpera pedal is it adds a 30 second looper to the amp so that's another way of getting a band feel.

If you can track down the guitar I strongly recommend giving it a go

Cheers for the info, I thought it maybe had a sort of tutorial element to it. I can't teach him, I just don't have the patience, was looking for an easy out!

Hijack alert but while we're on the subject has anyone tried that Rocksmith thing? I'm after some incentive to learn guitar beyond a few chords and the intro to phantom of the opera. Rocksmith looked like it might do the job.

There are some tutorials. I've only taken about a 10 second glance at them while trying to sort the guitar's sensitivity out. Not sure if they'd help, but probably better than nothing.

Not tried this, but from what I've seen, this is the best way to learn And takes any guitar, not the quite poor quality Strat you need in Rock Band. Look, I'm very glad I have the Strat, but it's only a ?200 guitar, and you can't even bend the strings (well you can, but there's a plastic ridge between all 6 strings on each fret, I guess it detects fretting via a current).

Hullo yes I have rocksmith it's quite confusing to start with and the dlc is limited but you can plug in any electric guitar and play it, it uses progressive charting (it adapts to your skill) which is easier to learn than rb3 but a real pain in the ass if you can play as it will penalise you by leaving out notes you know are there worth the money if you have an electric floating about though

Lovely guitar! Mine's Lake Placid blue with Competition Stripe!

I love the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, but it's always confused me that an instrument all about expression, experimentation and personality is locked down in these games to force you to play EXACTLY what is says on screen.

I imagine Jimi Hendrix would fail every song on Guitar Hero, because, y'know, he doesn't play the songs properly...

Being dead might be the bigger handicap though...

"Zombie Hendrix Playing Guitar Hero" could be the best youtube video ever.

lol, you did According to the manual it's a set of Fender nickel plated strings, size 9. They go on to say full nickel strings could cause problems, but that's going to be bollocks - if anything they'll conduct better. I'm guessing Fender don't sell full nickel strings, lol. I'll stick on some Ernie Balls if I can't get the Fenders for a decent price. The strings it came with aren't in great shape, think the guitar was on the shelf a while.

I got the best present EVER!!! Just take a look below.

See it? Neither do I. Yep, Sweet FA this year, just like last year. Yep. Christmas in Japan is wank at best for adults. At least I gave my son a good Christmas by leaving a drink and cake for father Christmas and with prezzies under the tree in a father Christmas sack. He got loads of Super Sentai stuff and Kamen Rider stuff.
