I've not seen the space station before but according to Beyondjumpfish's description it couldn't have been that as that moves quickly and has a visible structure unlike what I'm seeing.

If this light was something out of the ordinary wouldn't it have been picked up on by the authorities by now?

You would think so. We had something land in Elgin in the 70s on the RAF base airstrip and it burnt everything around the landing. Next door neighbours what we were best friends with he worked there and couldn't come home for 3 days till MOD dug everything up what was touched and took it away and the area was seriously guarded, basically like we got shut down. I'm skeptical tho, I always look on stuff like that being military as we had jet engines in WW2 so why not stuff like that. Germans had already built disc based planes in that era and it's well known companies are involved in gravity style propulsion. Either that or the prawns are going to land and setup in Africa again

Why would you think it was the moon?

It was visible again on Saturday night through breaks in the clouds. Looking at it again I can't tell whther it's a single light or several smaller lights clumped together. My eyesight's not so good and changing the focus of the binoculars can make it look very different. My mother and nephew who have better eyes thought they could see lines across the light and drew this sort of shape

            ="=
            "

Is this worh reporting to someone? If so who would I contact? It's clearly visible so long as the night is clear so it would be possible to show them.

What direction is it in? Can you drive that way and investigate?
Also, do you have a camera you can get a good picture of it with? Post it on here so we can see.

It goes down the main street outside in the direction of the station. It's quite late at night and it moves extremely slowly so it's not really possible to follow it all the way. I don't have a camera nor would I know how to post photos of them here unfortuanately but I might be able to borrow something. I doubt it would show up too clearly though, it'd probably just look like a bright star at that distance in a photo.

If there was someone I could contact about this sort of thing, that'd probably be best since they could see it for themselves. I have no idea who though?

You could contact a local airport about it. They might not be too impressed if it turns out to be a planet or the ISS though

If you go into google maps streetview and look in the direction you saw it you can save the link and post it here so we can work out the direction etc.

                    example http://g.co/maps/dyy3j

Damn good idea. If we know the direction I can look on my astronomy app and tell you if there are any obvious bright planets or stars in that area of the sky at that time of night.

The ISS was orbiting over the UK on Saturday night wasn't it? And that shape your mother and nephew drew could be it?

The Solar Walk app on IOS shows it was in orbiting over the southern part of the UK and that it's predicted position just about 9pm on Saturday is below.

Thing to remember is that it's been coming every night for the last 5 weeks so it's not a 1 off sighting.

The area it looks to be coming from is South Ealing and then moving over our back garden and then over Norhfields Avenue London w5 in the direction of Northfields station. It's moving so slowly you can't see it moving by looking at it. It takes about around 20-30 mins to really notice it's changed position.

The ISS apparently orbits the Earth in 1-2 hours so it moves much much faster.

Sorry that's my fault for not reading the whole thread.

Not sure what it would be just that the drawing made me think instantly of the ISS.

I look forward to finding out what it turns out to be.

That's the thing, will we ever find out what it is? The difference with this strange sighting is that it keeps on coming back though for how much longer I don't know. I'd like to get it checked out by someone before that potentially happens.

Just a thought, but what you have drawn looks a little like the Pleiades star cluster. Its in the night sky at the moment.
