Things that scare you but you do anyway

Shoving myself off the top of this almost vertical drop slide scares the hell out of me, even when I've done it several times. But it's such a rush that I do it anyway, over and over. I guess it's similar to that leap of faith in bungee jumping. In that picture, I'm actually in freefall with no part of me touching the slide at all. The photo is taken from a platform about half way up.

Picking up spiders. Spiders scare me - no idea why. However, for my kids' benefit, I just pick spiders up and put them outside, keeping my abject fear covered up as much as poss. I'd like them to not be afraid of spiders, or at least have had a chance by seeing from an early age that it's ok.

Marathon training - scared me a lot, but I did it anyway.

Dropoffs and Jumps in mountain biking scare me - I do them anyway, but with huge caution. Not on any large scale (I think the most I've done is 5foot drop and some basic jumps. The only time I see people hurting themselves on bikes these days is during the "landing" phase It's hard to hurt yourself on the trails unless you hit a tree.

Almost all the above (the slide - yep, I do the same thing with spiders in front of the kids too) plus snowboarding. The faster you go, the easier it is yet the more scary it is because it's gonna hurt more when you stack. Still do it though.

Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios. Everytime I go I cack myself before getting on (takes me an hour of pumping myself up to get the guts). It's purely because it's only a lapbar on the ride (that doesn't even click, it just "holds" in place) and the coaster cart doesn't stop and is constantly moving in the loading bay. So you have to sit down, lock yourself in before it takes you straight up a vertical hill (Think Saw at Thorpe Park but 3x higher) and then down a massive hill and around a huge loop that spins at the top.

Skydiving. Scariest thing I've ever done - especially when my tandem partner loosened the straps holding me to him (and therefore to the parachute). Nearly died right there and then.

I'd love to have a go on that vertical drop slide though!

That sounds like fun. When was that?

I don't like rough sea, yet I've joined an offshore rowing club.

Uh... Hawaii, 11 years ago. Business trip to meet Konami.
3 hour meeting, very tiring. Needed to stay in Hawaii for 4 days afterwards.

Out of interest.... what is it that causes these fears? They all seem related to fear of death, beside spiders.

What is it about death that scares you? The fear of you not being here or the fear your family and friends will suffer?

...- sorry for depressing question, honestly intrigued.

The fear of screwing up \ letting others down rather than the fear of death for me.
