It'll be interesting in 200 years when we can purchase our own "item printing" kits, which will print phones from raw materials.

This whole thing is getting stupidly out of hand, the whole phone industry will be reliant on lawsuits to keep it afloat soon enough rather than good business practice.

Besides, its not like apple are any where near innocent. The mouse? infographic desktop icons? all stolen wholesale from zerox tech labs by Jobbs himself.

It is getting abit silly now.

Imagine if electricity had been patented, or penicillin. I know the Samsung Google Nexus isn't quite the same league, but still.

Without patents there would be no protection for anyone spending heavily on longterm, innovative R&D and little incentive on spending money on interoperability protocols. Without legal protection for companies it makes it rather hard to justify dropping 8 or 9 figure sums on such activities, cue stagnation in the marketplace.

a lot of patent trolls now.....companies that buy up other patents though will never use those ideas for there own products

The iPod touch and iPhone design are clearly based on PADDs from Star Trek The Next Generation. Paramount: go - KILL.

Can a fictional product design be brought forward? Serious question. Not really expecting a serious answer, but would be nice.

I think I've answered my own question. As long as there's a patent, then it's all good. Many patents have not been created.

Why do Apple even care? The amount of drones buying iDevices is unreal.

You can, when apple were suing Samsung for the Galxy tablet for looking like an ipad, Samsung brought up 2001 :A space odyssey, because they use something that looks similar.

                          Samsung lost

Could whoever owns the patent on the PalmPilot design not get Apple for the iPod Touch? Hell, even Sony had a similar device they made using PalmOS, the Sony one especially looks like the Touch was copied from it.

This sort of behaviour makes me less inclined than ever to buy an Apple product.
