Netflix might be a bit of an exception to the usual process, in that I know that across all platforms, they filter content within their apps based on IP region. I don't know if with iOS they actually have different apps on the different stores (I doubt it though), but either way getting the app isn't an issue, the bigger one is routing your web traffic through an American IP address - a quick google ("access US netflix in UK" just did the trick for me) comes up with a tonne of resources on this though. If there's literally no Netflix app at all on your own store you'll need to sign up for an iTunes account in a region that does, but again, this shouldn't be a biggie.

Personally I would say that if you can get a wireless router set up, there is no reason why you would even need to use with or sync to a computer. It works just fine as a solo device; it'll download and self-apply updates, it's very easy to switch stores and download whatever, and even if something goes disasterously wrong, all of your historic downloads should still be attached to your account and can be re-downloaded.

I'm on an iPad 2 16gb wifi-only too, and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. I'm in complete agreement about games that are designed with the controls in mind, and even ignoring games it's such wonderful coffee-table fodder for browsing / checking emails / twitter etc. Anyway, I'm getting a little OT now.

Well im all set now, itunes accounts for japan & uk all registered. Bloody hard trying to find a decent case that didn't look all douchy hipster, just wanted something to put it in so it's protected in my backpack. Found something that looks ok, now just to find some decent screen protectors. Any recommendations for screen protectors?

Have already got my IP fixed, and creating a US iTunes account is no problem. What I wonder about is how to access apps from two different regions on one iPad. Can I access the US App Store while my ordinary user (european) is logged in? Do I need to remove my current user, and later put it back on it?

Totally stumped tonight, i was downloading apps fine & i managed to buy a couple of tables in app for pinball arcade then the problems started, after the first 2 tables had been bought it now says contact itunes suppot to complete the transaction when i try to buy anything else in app & then the next message says cannot connect to the itunes server.

It's like that with a few other apps too, i thought it might be my credit card so i bought a pint card & redeemed t but the same thing happens.

Is the store broken for in app stuff at the moment anyone? I can buy stuff from the app store ok it just seems the in app stuff is knackered.

You can only access one store at a time, so you'd need to go into settings and log in as another user (this is on the device - I tend not to use iTunes so I'm not up to date on that). If you have an account for a store, i.e. a credit card or other forms of credit, then the IP doesn't matter and you can download whatever.

For stuff like Netflix, iPlayer, etc, there is an IP check in the app. You can download the app if you have access to the appropriate store, but you won't be able to run it unless you can also spoof your IP. I've found this easiest using a paid VPN service (e.g. HMA), for which you just enter the details in settings, flick the switch, and away you go.

I've not tried any purchases recently myself, but if it were a universal iTunes problem the internet would be frothing at the mouth by now. I think I mentioned it before, but a friend also had some weird issue with a J-account recently - he'd only just signed up and managed to make a number of purchases, then it locked him out for a little bit (presumably while someone at Apple looked at it on their end) before unlocking itself and allowing him to buy things again. It's likely down to fraud checks and a large number of purchases in a small space of time. Have you tried again since?

Managed to do it by using a US account in iTunes, and then connecting my Pad to the Mac and sync the app over. It's wonderful to have Netflix by the side of my bed.
