Oh s**t, I'm moving!

The fact hit me hard, today, when I noticed I was browsing through all my documents to see what's useful and that can be sent to the trash heap.
Probably spending three hours filling forms and looking for an house wasn't enough...I had to go through documents more than 10 years old to realize that by the beginning of October I'll be living in a different country.

And while writing these lines I can't help to think that I submitted a resume thinking "yeah, like they'll hire me" in the first days of July. Then during mid August (while I was in Japan) I set up an interview two days after I would come back.
I left that interview with the promise that after a while I would receive a contract and yesterday there it was in my inbox.

So yeah, I'm moving to Switzerland till the end of 2014 and still can't believe it. In the next weeks I'll get back there to see some apartments, sign the renting contract and advance through the high amount of papers that have to be filled to move. Luckily the new employer will help with the work permit and will even refund some of the moving costs, but...everything seems so unreal.

Swiss German, French, Italian or Romansh.

Italian (your mother language?) doesn't appear to be spoken too much, what will be the default at your new place of work?

Sounds awesome mate. I think everyone needs to live abroad for at least a year. It's good for the soul and really gives you a different perspective.

Of course there is the risk you'll never come back. I'm now in Australia 11 years after coming over for a holiday...

Probably the move itself is easier on my side...I just have to move my stuff (videogames, computer, one chair and one desk, probably one bed) and not the forniture for an entire house. I've found a couple of nice apartments near where I'll work but can't commit to any of them until the company prepares the work permit, after getting an apartment I'll be able to fill out the moving papers.

I guess so, I'll be deep into German Switzerland. The company is a multiculutural environment, when chatting during the interview, I've been told that many don't learn Swiss German because most people living there understand English; but I guess I'll try learn the local language...even if it's one so similar to German, where even the kindest and most tender words sound like a death threat.

I wouldn't mind that...now. Pay is high, I'll have aircrafts next to me all day long and the place is incredibly nice, a rather drastic change from the scenery I'm used to.
Maybe after a month I'll miss, I don't know, how bread is baked in Italy, but right now I wouldn't really mind.

Sounds like a great opportunity. Switzerland is great and really friendly. So close to lakes and the Alps of course.

Just make sure you get decent Broadband and some sort of VPN to watch iplayer.

After so many weeks of searching and three trips (450km each) I've finally found a home in Switzerland and it's a really nice house in the center of a small town 2 or so kilometers from where I'll work. The owner is repainting and refurbishing the house and it will be ready in the middle of October. They want three months in advance though, quite the amount of money!
On wednesday I'll start moving the first few essential things (which include at least one console to a temporary apartment the company is renting to moving employees and do the boring immigration stuff.

Deep in canton Nidwalden, maybe to the highest mountains in Switzerland but an excellent hiking (and probably) skying place.

Not pictured: clothes, small furniture, bed linens, kitchen stuff, books, computer (full tower with 2 24" monitor and two UPSes), misc things. But videogames are all stored and packed. That's the important thing.
