it drives you as its in classes, the others around you doing the same thing make it better, its usually timed as well, it not like these generic non motivational everyday gyms out there, as you really cant crossfit on you own (unless you really want to).

i've been doing it for around 3 months now, and my core fitness has rocketed! i feel so much better about myself its refreshing.
you can ache for a day or 2 after a session, especially if its a muscle group you havent used much of. but no pain no gain.

Official time is in for Wednesday's 4.5k race. 15:40

Went for a half marathon before breakfast this morning and my legs were still battered from the race, so felt like lead. I was ready to give up a few times, but my lungs had plenty of puff, so I dug deep and pulled a PB of 1:32:25 out of the bag
Will go for a gentle 5k at lunchtime and then take the weekend off completely.

Good going, Charles. I bet you'd be close if not actually dipping under 90 minutes for the half in a race environment. The times you're producing are definitely of a decent club runner standard.

Had a good steady run this morning, finishing 16k in around 1hr19min. Now off to a local national trust place with the kids.

So, pretty much whatever exercise you are finding a bit tough this week.... it will always seem easy in comparison to this. A friend of mine writing about his GODZone race: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/activ...-on-Earth.html

First run in my Xero Huaraches. Yikes. Had to stop a few times to adjust the tension and I don't think I'm there yet.
This is a whole different experience It is pretty much just like running barefoot.
Did 2.5km and I think that was too long for a first go.

Oddly, the faster I went, the easier it felt. I need to figure out how to translate that running style to a slower pace.

My legs felt like they had had a massive workout by the end. These make my Five Fingers seem bouncy...

Oh, and I had to make them. They come flat packed.

              Here's my foot:

You nutter! There's a guy at my local Parkrun that runs in them. Always tears off at break-neck pace at the beginning and dies by about halfway. Not sure whether that's related to his choice of footwear or not, mind.

Heh, I doubt it. Either you can run in them or you can't. I hope to be up to daft miles in them in a few weeks. Legs are still KOd from the 2 runs I did last week though.

                  How's the VLM feeling?

Going well - feeling decent and just need to try and stay injury and illness free for the next 2 weeks. Everybody with a slight sniffle or cough is now considered a biohazard of the highest order!

What's the long range weather forecast?

Looking good so far. Saying highs of 11 (so 3/4 degrees cooler than last year) and dry. Showers the night before so that'll help to bring the temperature down but may leave the ground a bit damp. Of course, it could all change!

I was in Brighton yesterday for work and had a run along the seafront in both directions. Really pleasant experience and I'm jealous they had a stretch of land that's so wide and flat for running on!

First off road run in the Huaraches. 4k. Feeling some hotspots - I think I might be scraping too much or pushing off too much. Who knows... Need to change something. Don't know what.

Charles, what's the motivation for going minimal? Is it purportedly better for your feet/joints in the (ahem) long run?

                            Comment

It makes you run better. More glutes, less Hamstring and Calf. Fun too because you can feel the ground. And rather than crashing down on each step, hoping that 10mm of foam is enough to stop 70kg before the joints take the strain, if you hit the ground too hard, you instinctively switch to the other, to prevent pain. You can still injure yourself, but probably due to continued use of heel thump, leg extended running style. You can use normal trainers to run barefoot style by the way.

Any of you guys daring to venture out for a run with the air pollution as it is? I have an interval sesh scheduled for tonight but I'm thinking to complete it in the gym instead...
