    Must of missed these, love the first two.

      I'm not really an astro photographer, but it makes me wish I'd known I'd be able to capture this this weekend, I'd have gone somewhere a bit nicer.

      No, not aliens. Sorry.

        Sometimes it's just the fact you have a photo of it that counts.

          Even living in Norway for a year, I never saw this happen before.

          It looked apocalyptic from where I was.

            I had no idea the aurora was even happening until too late this morning.

              The pic above from Dogg Thang is really similar to the default wallpaper in Mac OS X Leopard, back in 2007. Now I know where they got the idea:

                Wife went visiting her friend yesterday so I went to Itami, weather wasn't great but at least it kept the instatwitters away;

                Took the 24-120 with me as well;

                ...oh and the smartphone version;

                  Went to Narita for a couple of days last week;

                  Last year was a washout, I was trying again to get a shot of the ANA Flying Honu because if Carlsberg did aircraft liveries they would do exactly what the Japanese do - going right back to the B747 whale scheme you can see in Ridge Racer nobody does paint jobs like they do and the idea of painting a family of sea turtles on the side of a massive A380 is probably something only the Japanese would do.
                  I only wanted one but I got the full set.

                  Blue

                  Green

                  Orange

                  The schemes are actually slightly different - it's in the eyes

                    Wow, now they are some funny liveries. 👍
                    Nice photos as well.

                        I went hunting for Chequered Skippers today. I didn't find any :/ - I found some caterpillars though. A whole mountain of them.

                        Perhaps all the spiders ate them

                          No idea what Chequered Skippers are but that mountain of caterpillars is nasty.

                            They are rare UK butterflies that at one point were considered extinct.

                              Were there any pine trees nearby? Those look like pine processionary moth caterpillars, of which we have plenty in southern Portugal. Make sure not to touch them as they have urticating hairs!

                                They are (probably) Brown Tail Moth caterpillars
