Curiously, this is the most fascinating thread on her right now, and the depth of info being offered is bloody staggering!

Myself, I like my specs. Don't like the idea of my eyes being 'shaved' or slit, yuck!! Contacts, too, blech, plus don't forget Momus!!!

I used to be a contact lens wearer but I kept getting eye infections and had to change brand of lens solution to prevent further infections. I was very thorough with my cleaning regime and tried all sorts of lens types everything from daily disposable to use for six months type. I didn't wear the contact lenses to work so I was only wearing them on days off and after day shifts. Eventually I had to ditch them altogether which was what promoted me to go for the laser eye surgery.

How strange, I wonder what caused that then, Are you naturally unhygienic? :P

^I'm prone to the same thing, blepharitis, started in the mid-90s, often get styes and crusty eyes. It's a right pain in the eyes.

There are things you do to help that, Warm water compresses or cleaning your eyelids with a very weak baby shampoo/water solution.
You can also get premade wipes too

^Oh, yeah, I know how to deal with it now so it doesn't hassle me as much when I get them. If it's REALLY bad, like a lump in the centre of the upper eyelid, then I use the 'hot, wet flannel' technique and it brings it to a head much more quickly, anyway it's all icky and crusty and painful, innit, and my bad habits don't really help (smoking, esp.)

That's different to the symptoms I experienced. It was always that my eyes became very itchy and it felt painful to put the lenses in. Never heard of blepharitis before.
EvilBoris are these wipes for treating eyelids a relatively recent thing?

I get blepharitis too. Not too bad for me, just looks like a lot of 'sleep' in the corners of my eyes. Last time I went to the optician he reckoned it was from looking at computers all day. Guilty.

I'm not sure, they have just always sold them wherever I have worked or visited. Look like this

Blepheritis is down to the gland near your eyelashes not functioning properly getting blocked with skin cells or whatever, it can mean your eyelids can get very sore and itchy. It's quite common for people who wear a lot of eye make up.....

CMcK, it sounds more like you just have very dry eyes, did you ever try any kind of tear drops?
I get very dry eyes from using a computer so much and if I have a late night gaming session I will wake up with sore red eyes.

Well I can speak as someone that had Laser eye surgery about ten years ago now. It worked well and waking up and being able to see is/was amazing. Before I was really short sighted and could hardly see anything except a blur. Sadly though the effects have started to wear off and I now need specs again. Don't get me wrong my vision is still vastly improved, but I just need that slightly sharper vision when driving. I have also noticed I reach to put them on more and more often.

I did use rewetting drops with my contact lenses for a wee while I finally ditched them. I've never had any bother with dry eyes although I do tend to get an eye infection every year when the hay fever season ramps up.
