Loads of Bishoujo news

First up is news that Koto's Black Canary will have proper tights on it rather than detailing that gives the impression. Personally I'm not a fan of the decision as it doesn't fit with how the rest of the series were made and opens the figure up to more faults.

Also, Mara Jade will be the next Star Wars based release

They don't look like alternates though as its a different artists work, more a sideline. Will see how Psylocke turns out as not touched the Marvel statues but WW is a no.

I really don't like the DC52 designs so Supergirl is a missed opportunity especially given Batman and Superman don't use that style. Catwoman looks dull too. Sadly, looks like the statues are winding down for me... come on Transformers!

My latest pla-mo builds were these... a new category of Zoids in 1/144 scale subtitled 'Modeler's Spirit Series' (MSS). They really are dinky, those diorama bases are only 10cm square. Close up photos kind of spoil the unique point of these by making them look normal sized. Despite the tiny aspect they have loads of posability and prepainted details, very nice.





The MSS kits are just the first of several things going on this year for the 30th anniversary year of Zoids, looks like more motorized kits will be coming this summer (probably just recoloured variants though).

I remember I had motorized Zoid toys back in the day...I do remember a Tryceratops and few smaller ones. Under a strict modeller's perspective, are any of the available kits korth buying? Some are really cool, but I can't help to think they look more like toys than anything else.

Technically your only available options are the 1/72 Kotobukiya HMM (Highend Master Model) kits and the 1/144 MSS kits I just posted, both of which would be recommended for serious modellers (more so the HMM though as the MSS kits are not very involved). The motorized toys are not being produced at this point in time and are only available on the collector's market.

Personally I'm a fan of the designs first, and the mechanical aspect second, so I like the original toys - if Kotobukiya had just taken the Tomy designs and made them into posable highly detailed kits I would have loved it, but in most cases they took liberties with the originals and I have never been too keen on the results. They take the flowing lines of the Tomy designs and make them all angular and boxy, plus they tend towards being too skinny (no requirement to hold a motor block in the middle of each kit allows them to do that).

Kotobukiya will soon be producing the HMM version of the all time classic Gojulas (a.k.a. Zoidzilla) so I'm very curious to see how that turns out. It'll have a hefty price tag that's for sure.

If you google HMM Zoids you're bound to turn up a few reviews of the Koto kits so you could judge for yourself, I can't really tell you as I've never built one.

Today though i got my Tsume HQS Naruto statues! These guys specifically make statues based on anime and they have licenses like Naruto, Bleach, Soul Eater, One Piece and Saint Seiya.

I've been pining for decent anime statues for years and i don't think anyone has got it right, all the DBZ statues i see always have such bad faces but Tsume have got it right! It amazes me that it's took this long, why Sideshow hasn't got a Dragon Ball Z license i'll never know! I'm really hoping Tsume gets the DBZ license it'd make me pennyless but it'd be worth it.

Deidara was originally supposed to arrive in November last year but was delayed till now, so both turned up today.

The HQS stand for High Quality Statues and they are so right. As soon as you open Narutos box and see how thick the card is and how it lifts away from the bottom piece and then how theres a piece of Tsume branded material wrapped around the polystyrene to help lift it out making opening the statue easy and stress free. You know this gonna be good.

The statues themselves both weigh well over 7 - 8 kilo each just feel so solid. Then you have super clean and detailed paints all round, just perfect.

Naruto stands around 13 inches tall but has a huge base for Gamakichi with the toads toes hanging over, while Deidara aboad his clay bird is around 18 inches tall, 15 wide and 15 deep he is a monster of a statue and just has an amazing presence.

Sakura is next in the line and it looks fantastic. I honestly am so impressed and so happy with these two i can't express it. I've been watching Naruto since it started and to have finally amazing representations of the characters has been well worth the wait!

The only other one which has been released so far and was the first in the line is Gaara, i didn't find out about the line until about a month after he was released and he now sells for anywhere between ?500 - ?650



Up for PO right now and released in August is Sakura. I love Sakura and she was so bad ass at the time she and Chiyo beat Sasori so i'm very happy with this one



Apparently Jiraiya is next and then i'd imagine Sasuke is after him.

They also will be releasing a couple of Naruto X-tra statues in the form of Toad Sage Naruto and Pain. These are on plain bases but are only about ?40 each.

I still need to finish the mountain of plamo i have before i can even think of buying anything else.
