I thought it was a fun thing for Xbox One launch and would have expected it to change back after. Just like the halloween ghosts a few weeks back.

As long as its all in jest then I think its a nice touch. If people seem to get offended by it though maybe stick with banners! Ill look forward to the PS4 BD Event!

In the last few years the forum has been decidedly clique-y, what with the blue room members only stuff, the use of real first names that a lot of infrequent visitors wouldn't know (a lot of the time I have no idea and I've been here for a decade, on and off) but now you guys are really walking a thin line when you start mocking your members in this way.

On an Internet forum a username/avatar is a persons identity, not something for 'impartial' moderators to play around with for their own personal agenda or for the sake of what is basically bullying. I work in kindergartens and if the kids start making jokes with other peoples names we come down on them like a ton of bricks. Hey, it's ok here though cos you guys are all best buds right? Not really, if you paid any attention to some of the reactions you're getting.

All valid points, Darwock, but it's really not worth getting worked up about.

The blue room members-only stuff is a way to encourage people to donate to keep the site running. It's a great idea to let people who pay the princely sum of ?5 a year get a few perks. Everybody is welcome to chip in and not only do you help keep the site running, you may win a game, bag a bargain or get a freebie.
Additional suggestions to get people to donate are always welcome, I'm sure!

The use of first names is only natural when people play online together, sell each other things (the name is on the parcel and bank details and people tend to sign PMs with their names as it's a little less shady than using pseudonyms), are friends on Facebook and even sometimes real life.

I find it confusing too and prefer to use my forum name within the forum in case work ever trawled to see if it's me posting on here! However it's great that people get on with each other on here enough to know their names.

I don't know why you're getting quite so upset about it, J0e, but the way you were rudely talking to people in the Vita TV thread, I think you deserve a virtual prank!

We all had it to start with though, so we were all in on the jape.

I told somebody to google a picture. How is that rude? I don't want people messing with my avatar. It's invasion of privacy. If I came around your house and painted your front door a different colour, or broke in and replaced the photos of your children with pictures of other children you wouldn't like it. I don't care what you think either. I don't want my avatar changed against my will.

What's the point? I can't do that, but Adam can adjust my account without my say so, and he has done so against my wishes. If it was just the avatar change for Xbox One launch then fine, but it isn't Xbox One launch until Friday, and as well as the avatar change, I also had his ******* frog avatar flashing all over my screen.
