Not so much my pipe as our office one but we're moving from 30Mb/s to 1Gb/s this week.

I'm sure the thrill of the speed increase will be offset by potential issues(most likely public IP-related) but I'm looking forward to finally making use of my newsgroup allowance which is around 400GB and counting...

My mobile on 4G is now faster then most xDSL. This is surely the way forward??

I was thinking the same but are the download caps decent? Mine is about ?45/month for up to 150Mb/s(although I've yet to reach anywhere near that speed) and 7GB.

Mobile hotspots are all the rage here and they have much better/unlimited plans for decent prices(but I needed a phone).

How consistent is the speed on 4G? That ping looks loads lower than I expected.

Not that it matters much to me anyway - I can't even get 2G in my house, let alone 3G or 4G

All I see when I look at 4G is a faster way of reaching the internet cap.

I agree that until the networks have milked consumers for a while it won't be feasible but at some point I'm guessing it will be the de-facto method for net access.

Existing Virgin Media users can get unlimited everything for ?18 per month.

We got our gigabit connection at the office. Unfortunately speedtest isn't working on it for some reason but another site gave us 885Mb/s down and 100Mb/s up.

Tomorrow I bring my USB hard drive...

For that Linux ISO of course

Funny you say that - my initial test was to download random Ubuntu ISOs from lots of different mirrors at once. The whole operation maxed out at around 10Mb/s and I got bored.

The excitement has worn down somewhat. I can't really think of anything. There aren't really many films I care about downloading that aren't on Netflix and renting any DVDs older than 6 months is so cheap here at 50p/night or so, plus they have Japanese subs for the missus.

My manager downloaded a 1,7GB SQL server ISO in about 20 seconds, though. That was fun to watch.

I'm mostly interested in seeing the hard drive working full-whack to keep up with the internet

Having a stellar old time of it last few days. Now down to a consistent:

Soon it'll once again be quicker to hand deliver a letter than post an email. Waste of time turning the machine on

Virginmedia, they only have standard broadband around here to 8mps would normally be the max. Usually it's enough to get by fine but useless at the current speeds It's fairly similar at the moment bur slowly drifting down to the 2's. Can see me ringing them by the end of the week.

Have you power cycled the router?
