Without googling - do you KNOW exactly where chicken eggs come out from?

Just to clarify - this isn't asking if eggs come from chickens.
This is asking if you know exactly where on the chicken the eggs comes out from.
i.e. Do you know about bird physiology and how it differs to mammal physiology?

I'm always astounded when people say they don't know where basic foods come from, did they stop teaching this kind of stuff as at primary school we were taught where pretty much most foods came from.

I would say that I learned this from Tom and Jerry.

That is, unless, I'm completely wrong.

My answer is part-lie. I don't know everything about bird biology but I'm confident where eggs come from and I refuse to Google for confirmation.

          MY CONVICTION IS SOLID.

          Like a boiled egg.

I believe I know, but I could be wrong. I've seen enough nature documentaries about young animals being born to know that animals have all sorts of weird and wonderful "rear ends" (like seeing baby animals born etc.), so the obvious answer may not be the right one.

I answered thought I knew but was wrong when googled. To be fair, I don't remember ever being taught it so my education from it came entirely from cartoons and Red Dwarf where Lister gets turned into one and comments on it Never considered an option C

Can I change my answer? I didn't read the question properly and thought it was asking where eggs come from, not come out from.

My conviction has withered like a rubbish omelette.

Yes, press the "unvote" button at the top right of the poll

                  I clarified the first post.

I knew the answer, but that's only because I had a meltdown a few years ago when I couldn't comprehend if the chickens need to be fertilised to produce eggs.

A hen is born with all the ova she'll ever have in her ovary and when she matures, the ovary starts turning the ovas to yolks. She'll continue to produce them and they turn into eggs, but they won't turn into chicks if they haven't been fertilised. The cock's sperm waits in a special muscle by the ovary and has a 15 minute window to fertilise the egg.

Well, this makes a nice change, doesn't it? I normally write "cock's sperm" on that other forum I visit on weekends...

Would it be biologically correct to state that when you are frying an egg you are frying one big chicken cell? With the yoke being the nucleus?

MMMmmmm cell membrane and nucleus sandwich.

Thanks, I've changed my vote. Also, the clarification serves as further embarrassment for me.

Colour me intrigued by the vote spread (or lack of it) so far... didn't realise we were all chicken experts
