          Mount rugs sounds dirty...

Which is it? I've only heard of Roomba and Cocorobo. I've always wanted to get one.

The do look like handy little things to have around the house, they definately now need to invent one to do the ironing.

                Anyone remember these?

Tomy made some fantastic robots in the 80's there was a whole range of them, was really basic tech back then but they were the coolest thing ever. Sadly i was too poor to afford the amazing omnibot 2000.

                Hehe so 80's it hurts

The best one Tomy did the omnibot 2000, even 30 years later it still looks very cool it has a wonderful sci-fi look to it even if it is noisy as hell and moves really slow. Ironically a boxed complete one in full working order will set you back nearly as much as Robi will nowdays.

                  Good call!

My favourite design of those Tomy robots was Mr. Money

That recent confused.com advert where the robots save Brian reminded me of an 80s cartoon called Telebugs.

Telebugs, I remember that show. Strange that I don't remeber too much from it though.

Well issue 70 finally arrived today just 69 more issues to go lol, because it's the last one it has the software to make him run and the user guide in Japanese for all the commands he understands plus his rubber hands and the back panel and a few other parts so i have a few spares if i need them, i mainly got it for the SD card with the software. After reading the user guide it seems like he can play a few games along with the other stuff he can do i now know what the red and white cards do that come in issue 69 it seems Robi can play the flag game. He also has furikake mode if you want to season your bowl of rice in a high tech fashion hehe. Not much robotics articles in issue 70 as it's mainly concentrating on finishing him off along with a final checklist you have to perform to make sure you havent screwed up any important bits like missing/uneven screws ect, shows you how to correct his balance and a few other important bits. Also comes with a DVD of the advert of the Robicycle i haven't even begun to think about getting that yet.

I had a look at the SD card it is indeed non copy protected i have backed up all the files on it to my pc to keep them safe i also had a poke around in there, all his songs and voice clips are indeed in wav format interestingly there is an english section for his voices too but not the same god awful voice the UK Robi has they are like engrish voice clips. When the time comes i'm going to experiment copying the voice files over to the english card to see if i can have him understand english but respond back in Japanese. There seems to be a CM folder too that has special voice clips that relate to tv commercials i'm wondering if certain tv adverts activate phrases with him? the data on the card takes up about 580 meg with space left over.

Seems the Robi club is pretty handy to join but sadly Japan only, maybe Deagostini UK will do something similar. In the Japanese club you can send your Robi into their clinic if he develops a fault along with ordering spare parts from all 70 issues and even exclusive decals to decorate him. Can't wait to get started when the english ones get delivered to me.

Just seen Tomotaka's Ropid he's like the advanced brother of Robi with a far more impressive range of movement. Looks pretty cool.

Oh man I so want one of these, I would go for the UK version of Robi but I just can't deal with the voice, I would learn Japanese just to interact with him

edit... just read a few pages back, issue 70 for the correct voice!!.. Chojin Wants
