Yep. We’re different here because we’ve got a variant on proportional representation so I really just vote for who I feel my best local candidate is in that particular election but it’s amazing to me that there are so many who grew up in a family that votes for one party and just keep on doing so. Because our parties too are so bad that I don’t think I’ve seen a generation of them in my entire lifetime that has been in any way competent. But at least I can hope for a half decent local candidate.

The carmaker will make its new X-Trail overseas despite first pledging to produce the model in Sunderland.
Just to make a point - I said this would happen (on here) literally moments after seeing Sunderland become the first place to vote Leave, late that night. Surely anyone who knows anything about Sunderland, who remembers who the construction of the plant was one of the big drivers in pulling the era out of something of a depression, would have foreseen this. I couldn't believe it when they were the first to vote leave.
The plant was constructed to be the lynchpin of Nissan's plans for Europe, not specifically the UK.Last edited by Asura; 03-02-2019, 21:15.

Hard Brexiters have told May that the only plan they'll agree to is to abandon the backstop entirely
The EU's Deputy Chief Negotiator has said that agreeing to anything the UK cooks up would be a dereliction of duty and that those in the UK debating the options lack the required knowledge of the withdrawal agreement to do so.

I also think it'd be a disaster. People might even die, if the efforts to stockpile things like insulin fail to keep up with demand.
It's hard to say what the make-up of that 42% group is.

Live updates in the wake of Nissan aren't that major but seem to have that familiar vibe of May not remotely blinking from her can kicking course. No answers to anything, I don't even know how MP's can hold a second meaningful vote on a deal, surely the vote should be cancelled and the original result upheld if the PM fails to return with any changes at all to the original deal?

Worth a read for those who are still in denial of what a Corbyn/McDonnell Britain would look like....
In April 2018 John McDonnell tried to assure the City that Labour did not have a "shadow manifesto" that it was keeping hidden until after an election.
It does.
This is it.
Full details are in my article, extracts here in this long (apologies) thread...

Businesses will be allowed to make declarations later – and postpone paying any import duties – to calm fears of border chaos
Taking back control of our borders apart from actually making it worse. I wonder how they intend to reduce the delay by the time the 1 year thing is up? Create lots of jobs in border control I suppose. Probably in the region of 350m/month

Having a read through that, how could they even THINK about this in the uk, let alone WRITE it down. Isn’t this in writing grounds for sedition?Last edited by fishbowlhead; 04-02-2019, 18:41.

Rolling coverage of the day’s political developments as they happen, including Theresa May’s Brexit speech in Northern Ireland
Chris Grayling, Transport Secretary, just comes out and outright says what May etc are likely aiming to target all this mess at
He says if the UK leaves with no agreed deal it will be all the EU's fault. The DUP's leader has also this morning pretty much said the same thing.
