I'd be very surprised if the EU accepts that at face value - this is the very definition of cherry picking the parts of the EU rule book you like. The EU will not accept a deal that undermines the Customs Union or the Single Market. We'll see I guess, the detail is still very woolly but it's progress at least and not in the direction any of the hardliners will like.

Not given Dominic Raab has been appointed the new Brexit Minister who is another rabid leaver. Other MPs are now calling for May's resignation, because having another leadership election with the deadline looming is a great idea, especially given the choices available as a replacement.
It's telling that the EU thinks little of David Davis, with a diplomat joking "David Davis delayed his resignation because he didn't want to take a taxi back from Chequers; we're already used to negotiating with Olly Robbins, so this resignation doesn't really affect the negotiations."
Still, he can go back to not bothering to write reports now.Last edited by MartyG; 09-07-2018, 10:24.

The Brexit White Paper is out and it marks out the concept of allowing EU citizens preferential freedoms to travel into and out of the UK for some conditions. Tories say similar deals could be struck with non-EU countries.
Here's a vague breakdown of the paper
Rolling coverage of the day’s political developments as they happen, including the publication of the government’s Brexit white paper
MP's are currently digging through and somewhat berating the soft Brexit nature of the paper

President praises Boris Johnson and says that May ignored his advice on Brexit negotiations in extraordinary interview
May will apparently try to woo Trump about the White Paper's Soft Brexit approach but in an interview beforehand he's already said that if the UK proceeds with the plan they can pretty much forget getting a decent trade deal with the US.
Anyone getting the faint whiff of No Deal yet?
