I'd cut Scotland loose, happy to see the submarine base in the North East, good jobs.

The Scottish Referendum III: If At First You Don't Secede

Good. Now while I am in favour of Scottish independence I feel that there should be a winning margin built in to the proposals so we don’t end up with the “clear majority” of 4% that led to Brexit.
I know there’s been a lot of talk about how English peeps feel that they’ve lost their identity to being British and wonder if maybe dissolving the union is actually the best bet all around?

Revolt criticising policies on independence, economy and transgender rights could also see Alex Salmond return to party
Alex Salmond could be back in the SNP next year as one element of a growing rebellion against Nicola Sturgeon's leadership style. A group of MPs expected pushes are said to include:
-Salmond being readmitted to the SNP
-Legally challenging the UK Government if it block a Second Independence Referendum
-Challenging the parties policy on gender recognition

I can’t stand soapy Salmond and I think he’s actually quite toxic for the independence cause. The press up here, which is largely English based but with Scottish sports coverage, vilified him for years. And they’ve done the same with Sturgeon. A lot of people think she’s some kind of wicked witch or something. He’ll take up what little coverage the “Scottish” press gives to Scottish issues and developments to the detriment of proper news being covered.

Latest updates: patients on ventilators hit record high as UK records 22,195 further cases and 592 Covid-related deaths
The Scottish Tory leader calls for all parties to condemn the SNP's push for a second referendum saying that any that takes place without adhering to the agreed rules and terms that the first was conducted under would be illegitimate and undemocratic.

First referendum, I really wanted Scotland to stay part of the United Kingdom.
Post-Brexit, I can totally understand why Scottish people feel unlistened to and want to leave now.
I can see the irony of the Government saying we want to be free of unelected bureaucrats making decisions for them, whilst Scotland watches a Government they didn't elect make decisions for them.

Deputy chief medical officer says benefits for older age groups clear, but adults under 30 should be offered an alternative to AstraZeneca jab
Independence looks set to be the key issue on voters minds in Scotland but so far there's little evidence that Salmond's party will reap any benefits from that with the SNP looking rock solid, the Tories set to take a slight dip and Labour and Greens pick up any seat losses elsewhere.

SNP leader says government accepts it cannot stop referendum if there is majority for independence in Scottish elections
Sturgeon says Westminster won't block another referendum if there's a majority in the upcoming elections.
Not sure with this one? Isn't there always a majority due to the popularity of the SNP but that's often misconstrued as a huge favouring of another referendum rather than simple distaste of the other parties? Given their past comments I'd want to hear from Westminster itself on if it'd allow it than believe Sturgeon out of hand.

Institute says health and social care manifesto pledges affordable only by increasing taxes or service cuts
Though the IMF (sadly not the Impossible Mission Foundation) has cited three parties as being in the wrong it's the SNP that looks set to easily win the May elections and once again they've been called out for being way off their spending plans and promises.
