The SNP would also allow people in the rest of the UK to move to Scotland and take up residence there whilst the country was in the process of rejoining the EU so that they could be in the EU post-Independence. Yousaf says that an Independent Scotland could have free EU movement but also remain in the common UK travel area allowing citizens to move between Scotland and the UK for work and living without any checks which is... well, it's how a referendum is lost. We've all seen, there's no cake and eat it outcome.

While it sounds nice, this is surely just the SNP doing "there'll be no border checks in Ireland" like the Leave campaign said before the Brexit Referendum. If Scotland leaves the UK and rejoins the EU, the whole point of that process is that they will gain control of their side of the border, but lose control of the UK side. That's how independence works.

The SNP are beginning to set out the stall of their Independence led push of a General Election campaign.

Today they have outlined that they would use Independence for Scotland to open up the borders to immigration to stave off falling population numbers in the country that leads to a declining economy

Swinney has axed the Minister for Independence role saying it's time the SNP focused on the economy, the move pretty much cements that the long running Independence push by the SNP is dead for the coming years

Prediction: the SNP gets replaced over the next decade or so by a more radical, Sinn Feinish pro-indie party, as indie voters get increasingly pissed off with the moribund, establishment incarnation of the SNP.

I could see that, I know they'd die at the suggestion but they're sharing too many of the Tories problems of late and the party fracturing as a result feels increasingly likely

I can guarantee that Boris Johnson isn't currently sat around in some kind of Ukraine "war room" with a bunch of generals shuffling loads of miniature soldiers and tanks around like it's Command and Conquer. He might be sat around in his living room playing actual Command and Conquer though.
