This is a mixture of emotional and material happiness, but I don't care:
1) Wife and I have finally started going to restaurants for dinner since February. It was our 3-year anniversary a few weeks ago and my wife booked a Greek restaurant we like. Work was busy so we had to re-book for that weekend but we had an impromptu dinner at a small, Russian restaurant nearby, then second dinner at the Greek place a few days later
2) We watched Tenet after dinner at the Greek place. Bear in mind we were walking towards Hibiya Park where our wedding venue was but that romantic walk down memory lane was replaced with time-travelling action nonsense at 10pm after we'd had more than a little wine. We hadn't been to the cinema since we saw Downton Abbey back in February, so that was nice
3) My new best finally arrived in Japan last month to live with his wife. He went back to Italy in January to sort out paperwork, then Corona happened. Before he left, I promised him we'd build an arcade cabinet when he got back here so that's on the to-do list. I made the promise in front of both our wives, so we already have authorisation
4) I bought an iPhone SE as a birthday present for myself. It's lovely
5) I bought an Apple Pencil "to let me take notes during Japanese lessons", but really it's for doodling
6) I upgraded my Rakuten Mobile plan from the old one to their cool new Rakuten Mobile Unlimit(sic) which is free for the first year. It's fast, and there's no download limit. Yet. It's not so great on iPhone SE, though, but it's free so I don't care(and there's no minimum contract, and I could even cancel during the free year and pay nothing)
7) I'm about to sign up for a CCNA and MCP course. If I pass these, they'll be my first ever IT qualifications
8) Japanese lessons are going well. After my nervous breakdowns during the early stages(the lessons were too difficult), I dropped to the lower level but recently she seemed a bit bored so I went back up to intermediate and managed just fine. No freezing, no shaking, nothing!
9)We've thrown a bunch of stuff away. We had super mold/mildew trouble this summer. The air conditioning broke(no idea how, honest!) and it took two weeks to get new ones. This was late August when temps were around 38'C. It was an awful time. My wife had to throw away so many of her vintage clothes with so many great memories. Thank Breakbot the dress she wore when we first 'went out' is fine. Anyway, this has forced us to reconsider our living situation and it was nice throwing away my old stuff as well
10) Speaking of old clothes, I've lost around 14kg this year with minimal lifestyle changes and working from home half the year. It's all thanks to my Apple Watch which my wife bought me for last year's birthday(I was 91kg at the time). I've gone down from 36" trousers to 34" with a bit of room to spare. I've lost so much weight that my wedding ring keeps slipping off! Four years ago I had to fly to the UK for my grandfather's funeral and needed to buy a suit. 36" trousers wouldn't fit and I had to buy 38". Basically, all my 36" trousers had been gradually stretching so I never noticed!
9) My wife managed to grab a Series S for my birthday present within ten minutes of pre-orders going live, despite Bic Camera's site going haywire. This is the same wife who stayed online for two hours on a Saturday morning three years ago, scouring Twitter for tips on where to pre-order an SFC Mini after I'd given up and gone back to bed.
10) The Series S is arriving NEXT WEEK
tl;dr:
