That being said, a few things have improved. SSD drives are a huge performance improvement for one.
I'm told it's in part due to something of a price war where gamers are competing for hardware with bitcoin miners.

Just buy a used business machine like a ThinkPad if you're on a budget, can't get better.

i5-4200H Passmark 4430 (running 45w) to i5-8250U Passmark 7666 (running 15w)
1TB HDD to 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD
8GB 1600 to 8GB 2400
Screen res is the same but better quality on the Dell, Dell has a fingerprint reader too.
I've taken out the HDD and replaced with an SSD.
Speedy is right about the Thinkpads, great business machines wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

So I've just driven non stop for five hours down for work in the morning. Of that entire journey it only didn't absolutely piss down for about ten miles, that's the first irk.
Second irk, the amount of people on the road who have faulty lights but think the remedy for it is just firing full beam on to compensate. *****.
Third irk, people who somehow seem to have it in their head that you put your fog lights on in heavy rain. *****.
Fourth irk, modern headlights that even on standard setting are absolutely ****ing blinding, especially in bad visibility. *****.
Basically, *****.

If I'll be there a while: I'll put it in P, release the brake pedal, and then press down the parking brake.
If I won't be there long(or I arrived when the light was already red), I'll put it into P but not use the parking brake.
Seems parking brake is safest, though, in case you get bummed by the car behind you.
