It’s the instant acceleration of electric cars that always catches me out, even the crap ones, bang all that torque in an instant with no effort.

I see the safety governing body of the automotive industry has FINALLY realised that touch screens are bloody dangerous in cars and is going to start demanding controls back to buttons soon, thank F.

      Agree on both of these.
Weird not going through the gears when you're accelerating, but I still reach for the gear stick after decades of habitually doing it!

There's quite a lot of tactile buttons on my car, which I liked. Things like the volume dial or aircon on/off, door lock and so on.
I didn't like the touch-control sliders that had no response to them in the Cupra I test drove.

In the same way that I instinctively reach for the gearstick, those basic controls should be at your fingertips with a tactile feedback to know it's done something.

      Those Tesla screen are bonkers.

The CX-5 throws me off all the time. You have a touch screen in there, plus dials and buttons on each side. Plus buttons on the steering wheel. Plus a selector dial and buttons on the central console beneath the gear stick. You can use any but it works against muscle memory to have so many options that do the same thing

After me moaning about hybrids and the like, yesterday I picked up my brand spanker 74 plate - Yaris Cross.

I went for Excel trim and had the panoramic roof.

Had the last car for nineteen years, and this thing is like being in the Starship Enterprise in comparison, am already a bit pissed off with the thing beeping at me every five minutes.
I'll just have to get used to it

Happy new car. My wife just bought one. Really nice

Cheers Atticus! Congratulations to your wife as well! We went to the dentist today and where we parked (only a small car park) there were two other YC's - another on a 74 plate.

Yes overall very happy, wife and daughter are even happier as they didn't like the old car.

You're damn right! That's mental, just under 50bhp less than my old M2 Competition, but all through FWD!

Reminds me of my mate who used to have a tuned Honda Integra DC5, spitting out 340bhp through the front wheels. I drove it a few times, and when I put the power down in a straight line, the steering got so corrupted by the power, I literally couldn't keep the steering wheel in a straight line.

I'm not a religious man, but god speed having an extra 10 horses than my old mates DC5, but in a Cupra body! Seriously, take care out there.

Want pictures here when it's all done!

I've been looking at replacing my 2007 Forester STi.
The only newer version is this 2014/15 "tS" which is rather dull to look at and only comes with a CVT gearbox. https://www.sti.jp/en/completecar/he...4/forester-ts/ And they only made 300 of them and I'd have to import one from Japan because there are only 3 that I know of in the UK so far. Price-wise though it makes sense. On the road in the UK for £15k

Not as sporty as the above but we just bought a Mercedes... LWB Sprinter lol. Ex-DPD in bright yellow. Converted to a campervan. Pics once it's in my posession.

Atecca Cupras look rather awesome in black with gold trims, bomb proof VW 2.0 engine with lots of space, but expensive.

I don't mind some of the beeping in mine - in fact I let the car steer itself most of the time

The only really annoying thing is the driver fatigue warning - it comes up when the wind is blowing the car all over the shop as it thinks you're falling asleep ; quick press of the ok button fixes it, but it is annoying as hell

There won’t be much to see unfortunately, stage 1 on cupra mk3>\golf gti/golf r, is just a remap, that’s it, as they already have everything to cope with the extra power.

                            Mine already has 20 wheels.
                            Running pilot sport 4s.
Large panel filter that already has excess capacity.
Mechanical front Diff which is really well set up.
                            New clutch 10,000 miles ago.

These engines can go 600bhp with 700nm torque without a reforge, and if you have the auto DSG box that will take it too with just a remap on the DSG.

Mine doesn’t have torque steer in its current configuration, it’s a different beast to most other fwd, I’ve had a mk2 st and those are absolute dog crap in comparison.

Can't wait to read how it feels fishbowlhead!

Impressive to hear that your car doesn't have torque steer. I wonder if it's a very refined map that bleeds in the power, as every big power FWD car I've driven, has had it to some varying degree.

I had the Mark 7 Fiesta ST-3 in stock tune and adored the car, but with 197bhp (Far lower than yours) I could still feel that torque steer creep in when you put the power down. And considering the depth of engineering Ford put into that car (Including a LSD) it still showed it's inevitable in a big power FWD setup, much like oversteer in a RWD car. Although, it was nowhere near the bucking bronco of the Integra DC5. It was a good laugh though, that Momo wheel didn't know what hit it.

Another 100nm of torque may be the limit of the front Diff i suspect, maybe, we will see. If that’s the case I’ll just have to be a better driver and re learn the car.

Even now there’s enough torque to spin the fronts at 50 if you just floor it with no control.
